Default Random breath testing article

I was having an argument/conversation with the missus the other night when watching RBT. She asked why no one was ever asking for their exact reading when they blow over before being taken to the station to get another reading. I said its because police aren't allowed to tell you the reading. She disagreed and after a bit of a hunt on the internet I came across an article which proved I was right...wanted to share it actually covers a whole heap of questions regarding breath testing that you might find interesting.

Here is the table of contents to save you clicking on the link if you aren't interested: https://www.adtbreathalysers.com.au/...ing-need-know/
  • What is a random breath test?
  • What is blood alcohol content (BAC)?
  • What is the Australian Blood Alcohol Limit?
  • How much alcohol is in a standard drink?
  • When are police allowed to breath test me?
  • What information am I required to give during a random breath test?
  • Can I refuse to take a breath test?
  • What are the penalties if I refuse to take a breath test?
  • How many breath tests can I be requested to take?
  • If I blow a negative reading, can a police officer request a further test?
  • Can a police officer force me to the police station for a sample?
  • Does the police officer need to show me the breathalyser results?
  • What are the drink driving penalties if I blow a positive reading?
  • What is an Alcohol Interlock Device?
  • When I get pulled over, I am going to quickly swap seats with a passenger so I don’t get caught.
  • If I am just sitting in my car on the side of the road, can police breath test me?
  • Can a police officer breath test me if I am at hospital receiving treatment?
  • When are police not allowed to breath test me?
  • Can I challenge my breath test result?
  • I’ve heard I can apply for a Work Licence, what is that?
  • What are the different legislations in each state?

Except for the last para the article doesn't appear to recognise the existence of WA so not so helpful to me.

Maybe WA hasn,t got around to drafting drink driving laws yet.Went to Adelaide about 3 years ago and when I got off the aeroplane I asked a local, what time is and he said March 1986 so maybe WA is even further behind than SA is LOL.

I hate these shows, but changed to highway patrol last night. The editing was so bad.

Lol, i was trying to think of some of the mega production dramas when I worked in tv.

"Let the blood run free" was one of the classics from 10.

We had a show where someone decided showing b00bs would be a good idea, until Kerry packer saw it. can't remember the name of that little gem.

Not sure production values have changed that much.

Was it Chances?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chances_(TV_series)

I remember watching it and they'd have just random topless women in the background of most scenes

Haha, that's the one.

Guys were always huddled around the entrance of studio two.

Wasn't so funny that night Kerry rang up though.
It went something like "get that crap off my tv...NOW" Good days.

I think the show that was taken off air 3/4 of the way through the episode was 'Australia's Naughtiest Home Video Show'.

The best part about RBT is when they do the 'Over or Under' segment on Have You Been Paying Attention.

I think RBT is a good show for young drivers and hoons to watch... It teaches them that the cops don't fall for stupid excuses when caught.

Wasn't it the Doug Mulray TV show that only lasted 1/2 an episode until Kerry rang up & had it canned?

Uncle Doug was trying a similar thing to Paul Hogan & Graham Kennedy, but some 15-20 years too late...

Chances screened for ages.

The PBT is the preliminary test (hence the p) and is used as a screening tool only to detect the presence of alcohol

The EBT is the evidentiary test - the test of which a certificate is produced at Court

The two will never provide the same reading, hence why the pbt result isn’t disclosed - just eliminates the accused raising a discrepancy when the EBT result is returned
