Guys,
I am thinking of purchasing a cheap 2001 series 2 AU XR6 auto, apparently the car won't start, kick's over fine. Has fuel and the smartsheld is working, any ideas I can start eliminating. Cheers |

The starter (and ignition relay, either could be the problem) relay are in the engine bay near the battery. There's a diagram somewhere that describes which relay is which. Not sure if it can be swapped with any others without looking at them again but i would have thought they're easy to get from the wreckers, pick a part and such, to try.

Ok. You obviously know better than the auto elec that i witnessed replace the starter relay and ignition relay on two separate cars and rectified the problem with exact symptoms as OP.
People can either take the advice and suggestions or leave it. It's been given anyway. |

And people should spend their time contributing to the thread rather than getting upset just because alternate advice doesn't match their 'staff answer'. |

How do you know smartshield is working?
What is the warning light doing with the ignition on or white cranking?

The possibilities are almost endless but common faults include failed coil pack, blocked fuel filter, failed fuel pump, and failed PCM ...

I have to agree that if the starter motor is turning normally its extremely unlikely that the starter relay is at fault. If it was at fault the starter would either not turn at all or turn very slowly (and in the latter case it's more likely corroded prongs on the relay or corrosion in the relay's socket). See the circuit here: https://fordforums.com.au/wsm/wire/a...html#page00009
