Hi all..
I picked up some tyres on the weekend in preparation for my first outing to the track in May (AFF meet). I have a few questions about them, and running them on the car. The car in question is my XB coupe (383/4500 stall/4.11's). Runs 295 BFGs on the street. The tyres I picked up are 275/60/15 D.O.T. approved (treaded, sort of..) Hoosiers. They were on a Group N (i think) HQ circuit car. Used for one round or so, then replaced. I got them free, and can't justify buying a set of new tyres for what will possibly be the only trip to the track this year... From what I've been told, if warmed up these are reasonably sticky tyres, and should do ok on the strip. Any comments, opinions on this? anyone else use/used these tyres for this or any other purpose? the other concern I have is that as far as I know, these are cross-ply tyres. From what I have read these shouldn't be run with radials on the front, due to wandering issues etc. Is this just for cars that run over certain times? or is it a case of 'no matter how fast your car goes, you shall not run with mixed tyres'? The 275's did come with a matching pair of 225 hoosiers, but are heavily cambered due to how they were previously used. I'm worried that running these on the coupe would be a bit risky due to the wear on the tyres not matching the alignment thats currently set on the car. one last question - for now, these tyres have tread wear indicators on them, are they ok to use on the track all the way to zero tread? all coments/opinions/advice welcome |
