Default Mk1 Cortina Windscreen and rear window stainless steel trim replacement

I have a 1966 Mk1 Cortina and I'm attempting to replace-insert the stainless steel trim into the channel of rubber seal. After spending 2 days and many variuos methods I just cannot get the trim into the top corners.
There must be a swifter easier and less frustrating method.

Does anyone know how it was done when the vehicles were being assessembled??
Does anyone know an easy method??

It seems to me as though the trim channel is too narrow.
Unlike the original seals there are no moulded corners to fit the window profile.
It is possible that the rubber seal is a generic for many different Fords?
Any help will be appreciated

Regards
