Default I've finally got an XH snorkel!

About 2 weeks ago, I picked up an XH snorkel from FTG Auto Salvage. Only then I realised I had to cut the top off the radiator shroud. I took the stock snorkel off a week ago, and I've been cruising around with nothing on there. While I loved the noise, the warm air it was sucking in wasn't doing a lot for power. So finally today, I cut the top off (I had to buy a new hacksaw as I broke my old one) and the snorkel is finally on the car! So another mod ticked off the list. Next... window tint. (yes, it's a pretty pointless thread)

The engine needs a degrease (It could do with a new rocker cover gasket) but here it is

It doesn't feel too different to the stock one. It might have one or two more kW over standard but it's not particularily noticeable, and it has a tiny bit more induction noise, but again it's not hugely noticeable (definately not as much induction noise as no snorkel at all!). If you are expecting a huge difference, you will be disappointed. It's more for looks than anything. I might eventually screw it down so it sits a bit flatter, but it stays down fairly well on it's own. Here is the stock one for comparison (when the engine was clean)

I noticed a bit of difference when i screwed it down, and used some ducttape to get a smooth flow from the ramp like thingy, straight to the mouth. also, the seal on the top of the hood may cover part of the vent. noticed that when i took the front grill off.

I never realised that the EA had a different intake to the EB - ED... The original one looks very restrictive compared to the Eb - ED one... and the XH one looks even better again...

Good stuff!

I could post up a pic of my ED one if you want to know what the hell im on about... :P

Yeah, mods are slowly happening.

fairlane_ghia, that would be great if you can put up the pic.

NC_Lane. Thanks for the advice. I might have to have a look at that seal. The duct tape idea sounds good too. I just need to be discrete so it isn't particularily visible.

Thanks fairlane_ghia. It looks heaps less restrictive than the EA one. Still not as good as an XH one though!

Yeah. I don't trust myself with that. I'd screw it down but I don't have a drill!

Yep. I'm planning to get some for the front too. They'll just be 4" 2-ways but they'll definately be better than stock. Should even the sound up a bit more.

Fair enough. When I touch-up my stone chips I'll have to start a thread on that.

Default fairlane_ghia question

hi, after look at your picture of you original snorkle on your ED, i need to ask you whether you just simply cut that mould that sits around the original ED snorkle. I'm trying to fit an ED one on but realise sumthing has to be taken off. is it just as simple as cutting it off and fitting the XH one? cheers

You need to cut off the area where the original snorkel sits on top of the radiator shroud. After that fix the XH one on with a screw,. Make sure you gont go into the radiator

if you don't want to screw into your radiator support you don't have to as it sits there fairly well. there is a rubber on your bonnet that sits on top of the snorkel and i don't think i have heard of a case were they make rattling noises.
