If so, it's a Mk I Escort. If it looks anything like the pic below then it's a Mk II. Either way, they're great cars, easy to work on and fun to drive, you can't go wrong! Sorry, I don't know where you could get a rack and pinion from up where you are, if you were in Melbourne I could help...

Hehehehe guys
This time he was given a car & not by me :P A girlfriend of mine has it & it was her 1st car, yes it hasnt run for 10yrs although it has been started a few times Im led to believe. We havent seen her as yet but shes only in Dubbo so we might go for a drive on Thursday to go have a look at her. From the details Ive been given its either 79 or 80 model thus the bottom piccy is spot on .... its a 2 door as well so this is a real project for him ........ this one will be a little easier than the wagon ...... The interior Im led to believe is spot on as well so this looks like a real goer .... something to keep him happy for a while ;) I think he might be the youngest not only on the forum ..... but of all we know to own 2 cars now :p BTW ..... He wants to sell the civic ........ hes not fond of these front wheel drive thinggys ........ in his words ..... only if I had a real car ......... I think hes back on track ;) |

Try and locate a quick rack - well worth the effort!
I found it cheaper to get one interstate instead of getting one recco'd locally. It was about 6 yrs ago, and I got it through Quickco...

top stuff. you will learn a lot in one of these. great car to learn to fix, great to drive. keep an eye out in the trading post (or similar) for free escorts, or some going really cheap. parts for these cars are becoming hard to get, sbut cars are still available for not much money
i warn you now...you are going to fall in live with this little car. enjoy it. |

My first, second and third cars were all escorts. I did my own mechanic apprenticeship in the shed with those cars. I sold my last one last year, a 1975 MK1 panno with a worked 2.0(cam, twins, ported head etc)and rear discs, all for $400. I wish I kept that thing now.....

Gotta love the 2 door Escorts, they are sexy cars indeed, IMO. Let us know if you need any help or advice, just like LuvinmyEB said, we're only a PM away Seems quite a few of us here have a soft spot for Fords Escort... That reminds me, you should come down here to Melbourne next year for our Small Ford Sunday - Escorts as far as the eye can see (well almost), as well as some other unique and sexy small Fords. Well worth the trip if you're a fan of the blue oval, IMO.

Well a bit more of an update ....... the boy wanted me to post for him ;)
It is definatley a 80 2 door MkII ..... White in colour, bit of rust in lower rear drivers side panel, inner of boot has a bit of rust, there a bit of a dent in both fron guards ...... my mate & her brother scored one each side :P The interior is immaculate & is black ........ Well thats about all I can say ...... we still havent seen it but that was the description given to us by my mates father as her inspected it over the phone today ;) We should pick her up next w/e ..... this w/e we will be at bathurst ;P On another note ...... the boy has been accepted into TAFE 1 day a week to do a pre mechanical course ......... all the topics are what he needs to fix this baby so he is a happy chappy at the moment ;) Last edited by MotherNatureVer2; 08-03-2005 at 09:18 PM. |

Might be worthwhile pouring water down the vent in front of the wind screen. If the carpet inside gets wet, the bulkhead has rust. It is often overlooked inspecton area.
Looking forward to the pics!

Good luck with it, I got my first Escort this time last year, and I've had three since then. Great cars to learn in, and easy to get parts for.
