Unhappy Cortina 1600 Gt engine no,s

Hi I have what is supposed to be a 1600 Gt crossflow engine in my car ,how can I verify that it actually is a genuine Gt engine ?

If any 0ne can help,,,

need more info
what year was your car made
look into engine numbers
then a letter or numbers cast into the block and heads

Question

Hi it s not in a cortina ,have found a few numbers ,just above oil pressure sender is 03696,,,in block on other side found 681,,,f60150,,,THATS ALL I CAN FIND ,,,are there numbers on the head ,,,its a crossflow so i guess later than 67 ?

Alot of the time the engines will be the same except for a different cam profile and inlet/exhaust manifolds and different carbs. A GT Kent engine would have a dual throat webber downdraft (quite possibly fitted to a semi circular inlet manifold but not necessarily) but these may well have been "borrowed" long ago. Your best bet is the engine number, which should form part of the chassis number of the car it was from, but for the life of me I can't remember where to actually find it on the block. If you can find this number you may be able to use it to trace the car's identity.

It may take a bit of time to track all this down and you may never find out what it's from. Just build it to GT spec (or better).

thanks ,can you recommend a workshop in melbourne to take it to for tuning etc as I am new to the cortina engine scene I have been to Yesterford ,,what do you think,
