Default Ford Advertising?????????

Is it just me or does ford need to employ a new ad agency? The garbage they put on our tv's/radios is appaling. For example:

1. The ads on the cricket with the mum catching tennis balls on the ladder.
2. The XR6 Ute ad on radio with the seagull and some other creature talking.
3. The "Sports Calendar" ad on radio at the moment.
4. The new ranger ad :(

What the hell is this garbage?

The Turbo Territory add eating sports cars isn't a bad add,, just need more air time. Hardly see that add but always see the crap New Ranger add.

Ford need to simplfy the adds and with the money saved spend it on getting the adds more air time. How many times have you seen the VE add about its compititors being left in the stone age.

Another is a catchy song. Take Citroen for example. That dance song in the add is always on TV or the radio and every time you here it you think of the add.

Research & Development not Advertising & Publicity. But yeah they could do things a bit more effectively. The Australian market isn't that complicated but you do need someone who knows what we want, I guess thats why Geoff Polities was such an asset. The guy in charge of PR is most probably some metrosexual/homosexual that has had more to do with hair gel than cars.

Would be nice to see them pushing the Focus and Focus XR5 Turbo a little more aggressively. It's the equal of the Mazda 3, for instance, but is hopelessly beaten in the sales race. Ramp up the chiahuahua(sp?) in the handbag ads again????

Aah, I think they better worry about being able to supply enough cars for existing XR5 customers before worrying about trying to find too many new customers!

Anyone been seeing all the print ads in the papers at the moment - about how "you can now buy the Bathurst winning Falcon from your Ford dealership".

Lol, would fool a few suckers I would think...

Thats me...

back on subject, I would be interested to see what the budget is for advertising compared to other manufacturers.

As Ford aren't a Pty Ltd, they won't have an annual report released.
I wonder how we could find that information out.

Sponsorship of items like the cricket would take a huge bite out of the existing budget. TV advertising (whilst good) doesn't help with info to consumer. TV advertising is more about brand recognition. Newspapers are a great blend, and Fords website is pretty informative (expecting that you've arrived there with interest... You're a 'qualified lead').

I personally liked the Turbo Territory add, although "Alek Lloyd - Amazing" has always made me thing of both the Territory pulling up at school and a BA pulling down a road.

Whilst we're on the subject, here's a few to jog your memories. Consumers only remeber the woefull stuff.

Falcon RTV Ute
BFII Fairmont Ghia
BA Falcon - Generic

The ad with the xr6 on the slot car track is quite clever as is the turbo territory ad. HOWEVER, if you are going to spend money on advertising don't make the ads so woeful. The ute ads with the immortal " Must be stuck in second " were quite clever as well as the above mentioned rtv ad with the ute racing a motorbike. But the load of rubbish on tv at the moment and especially radio is terrible.

Lets sum up the Aussie competition.

VE Commodore add - I like it, pretty cool stone-age cars getting about.
Holden Viva - Look, it's got an MP3 player just like the Hyundai!
Holden Captiva - Not too bad, but far too city+family orientated. You don't need to tell them who needs to buy it and how it must be used.
Holden Barina - It can play basketball!
Mitsubishi 380 - Buy our car, it's cheap as!
Honda Accord Euro - We've got so much cash, look what CGI can do!
VW Passat - If you'd dad's rich, you'll be safe taking this for a quick strap.
Any Mazda - Just because it's American advertising, you can still pretend it's in Aus!
Toyota Corolla - We've sold heaps of them! It's really old and you should buy one now.

Current car advertising isn't much chop.
Advertising in general is pretty difficult.

Think about very clever ads and why you like them.

My favourite at the moment will only make sense to Vic readers.
The Manga exhibition at the NGV at Federation Sq. The whole ad is in Japanese and is read just as they are in Japan, cutsie girl, and lots of excitement. As the ad is in Japanese, your attention is immediately drawn to it, so you watch it and absorb the imagery as your ears are pretty much switched off.

I just saw a new advertisement for FPV .... they make a mention of the "FORCE" range of vehicles ... but no footage.

Looks just like animated images from the brochures though.
Dark background. Wasn't anything too special though. Just music in the background from what I could hear (was on one of the wall LCD screens here at work on Optusvision - BBC World News).

Anyone remember the American Ford GT advert?
The one about it being a pace car for the entire (Ford) company?
Now that is the sort of thing we need here!
There's probably still a link somewhere on the www.
