Default Escort MKII Rally Pack....how to tell if genuine or replica?

Hi to all!!

I purchased an Escort today.... :hihi: YAY!!! Paid $1700.

It's a 1978 MKII 4door. The previous owner says its a Rally Pack but could not be 100% certain. He says it has all the running gear of an RS2000 plus it has the Rally Pack dash. Had an engine recon bout 5000km ago.

How can I check if it is a genuine Rally Pack. Anything in particular on the tags to recognise it by?

Also he said he ran it on 98 octane unleaded without lead replacement additive. Said if he ran 95 he would use additive but no need with the 98. I am sceptical. I think u still need additive either way. Some help please! :

I look forward to the road ahead. I am sure you will hear more from me soon.

Oysta

G'day mate.

From what I remember the Rally Pack was an option on the GL Escort.

Steering Wheel, Wheels, Rear spoiler, Blacked out B-Pillar and I think some stripes along the side ?

Because it was an optioned up GL and not a model in itself I don't think there is a code on the compliance plate. I may be wrong though.

Check the site from brochure scans - they may shed some more light on the subject.

Over a GL theRally pack had factory rear sway bar, front spot lamps, steering wheel, front bumperettes in black, black rear bumper front spoiler, rear spoiler, 'GT' style stripes on the sides of the car, tacho dash and around the windows in black.

From what I remember the codes on the compliance plates are for a GL.

Not sure if that is the info you are after, I guess seing if the mounts for the rear sway bar are there is a good start.

I know there was a MK2 'Denim' pack which has the same stripes and spoilers as a rally pack but no rear swaybar and I think stock dash but has cloth seats with ESCORT written on them.

My rally pack was a 1977 and it had just black vynil interior.
