Default Should we be embarrassed? (to drive an auto)

I was at the gym last night and a few guys were talking about a WRX one of them was considering buying. I suggested they consider an XR6T. They ummed and arrred and became curious. Then They asked me about my XR6T.

They asked me about my own XR6T and what transmission it has and I said Auto, they scoffed and laughed, they said seriously what is it? I repeated "Auto".

I told them that the Autos at the drags are faster than the manuals and that the XR6Ts go pretty hard when tuned and would give most WRX's a good hiding. They again laughed at me. "Come on...They said its an embarrassment to drive an auto".

Should we be embarrassed? (Auto, ford drivers)

We should be proud of driving auto.
The 6 Speed Auto in the Falcon would shi t all over the rex sti,
as the sti is no match for it.

I agree with you, i am proud but trying to convince these guys was harder than banging your head on a brick wall. when all they know is small motor, no torque, skyline, WRX, 200sx, the auto never makes sence.

I don't know about "embarrassed" but personally I would never buy an automatic performance car (I just find it boring). Then again I have nothing against people that do - the vast majority of Fords/Holdens are auto.

No need to be embarrassed mate, they are just ill-informed. With the latest ZF boxes in eu they will shift much quicker than any manaul box and leave your mates wonder WTF happened.

Let alone DSG...... Going off the talk of DSG being the norm in almost all euro stuff it won't be long before we have them here in our imported Ford products.

Bah, I get crap all the time because my ute is an auto. It doesnt worry me one bit, because it's still fast enough to blow off most people who have a go at me about it. And, I can have a drink while I'm doing it!@ :hihi:

between the ss drivers at the servo, and the wrx guys at the gym, well... I dunno.

maybe deep down you aren't happy with your car?
alternatively, you could, just maybe, not care?

btw, proud auto driving, ss/wrx beating AFF member here

Agree 100%. The experience you get with most sports cars can only be fully enjoyed with a clutch.

How can you chase an "employee" keep an eye on a trick & wave your cane with a manual?

get more "employees" Dan, and put up their hourly rate, you'll be able to afford a driver.

See, I told you to get your inferiority complex sorted out in the last thread. Next time you feel a little vulnerable, take a step back and unload your jink on them. I find this to be the only way to asert myself in the gym with the WRX boys.

I must be deeply confused with the C4 and dominator converter going onto the back of my RB. Turbos also make arseloads of torque, you might want to be more specific.

From whom does the message originate ?
Some may be ill informed, but most don't care what they think.
