AU bonnet bulge help

Well considering i'm getting my bonnet resprayed eventually, i thought about puting on a bonnet bulge. A few questions though, i see plenty advertised on ebay for around the $100 mark then theres others that are nearly double, has anyone bought one and been told its a good quality type? and where from. Also i'm sure i read something somewhere that the washers need to be moved? Where too if they do. And does anyone know any panel shops that do this work, basically most only want insurance jobs where it's in and out these days .. i'm in Frankston so as close as possible to me the better.

Ok i've sussed out the washer removal part ... still wondering if anyone has used a bulge off ebay or bought one somewhere plus a panel shop that would do this type of work?

I've seen these advertised as well, but have never heard of anyone grafting one on. Most of the ones I've seen people have replace the whole bonnet with either a fibreglass or carbon fibre bonnet.

I would hazard a guess at thinking, that you would be better off at attempting the the job yourself. Because if you had someone install it, then had it painted, it would most likely come in at roughly the same price of buying a complete fibreglass bonnet and then having it painted.

if you are thinking of putting a fiberglass one on to steel it NEVER works it will eventually crack and for the time and money to have it put on it would be cheaper and better to get complete fiberglass bonnet. of topic but does any one have a photo of au with 428 mustang bonnet scoop.. my mate put a walky kit on his vl and put the bonnet scoop on with a clear windscreen sealer that never fully goes of and painted over that so it had a movement joint of sorts but you couldn't do that with ba or fg scoop

The fibreglass bonnets are about $700 + postage then paint and then they say use different bonnet struts as the ones on the car are too stiff .. this would be around $1300 in total .. i only need mine repainted which ive had quoted at $300 but thought since i'm getting it done, why not put a bulge on it .. i wouldn't be doing it if my bonnet was ok .... decisions

A mate has an F6 typhoon, and he just got a vented bulge thing added to his bonnet (fibreglass grafted to metal). The guy who did it reckons the trick to the paint/bulge not cracking is to bake at low heat for longer time, rather than higher heat for "normal" time. I think around 30 degrees C was recommended (instead of 60 odd painters usually use)

I was going to get a steel bulge done for 500, if i was going to get a kit, basically, any size i want and hieght, the bonnet gets cut, and the bracing and other stuff gets rewelded around the bulge

If anyone has a spare bonnet laying around for a series 2/3 in any condition aslong as it works in the Sth East Melb area that they wanna sell cheaply or lend out for a week please let me know.

FIBREGLASS SCOOPS AND METAL BONNETS WILL ALWAYS CRACK AT THE JOINTS..
Fibreglass does not stick very well to metal and even worse to Plastic..

the bonnet on my au never cracked for time i owed it anyway and i had the car for 2yrs with the mods.
it depends on quality of workmanship. and as posted by JC needs to be baked at right temps for right amount of time.

I asked the place that's doing it about my concerns for it to crack and he told me it won't, he explained and showed me what will be done and i'm happy for him to do it .. just need to find another bonnet
