Default buying au3 xr8?

On the verge of buying an Au3 xr8. but noticed some rust spots...should i be worried or are these only minor?, will obviously get something on them, car looks pretty tidy on gas (B2 converter??), anything else i should look for, passed RWC, any help would be great

Should there be an assemblers name on the LHS???

cheers guys

There's a thread on here somewhere that i created as a bit of a rust survey and something like 70 or so percent of AU's have rust...

Mine has rust in the same spots as exhibited in the second and third photo. I fixed them up myself and it turned out ok. I'm sure if I had a closer look I would find more rust, but I won't so I'll take the ignorance is bliss option...

Do you know where the car has resided for most of its life?

I would have expected that the engine would have an assembler plate on, but it probably just fell off. I know mine is looking a little worse for wear.

The rust on the hinge is nothing to worry about, it can be treated and cleaned up and will be fine for many many yr's,
The rust in the lower door/sill , I would do some more searching under there, to see how bad it really is, obviously there is some dirt/leaves and soot behind there and the bodykit to cause this, but once again if you find it is not to bad once you look in there, it can be treated and cleaned up quite easily.
It doesn't look to be structual but you will need to look a little thurther under the gaurd, I bet you find a heap of wet dirt/crap in there.
Take that rubber grommet of that's near the rust and look in behind with a small mirror if you can or even stick your finger in there and I bet you feel wetness and your finger comes out black....

If you do buy it, I'll buy the bracket that goes over the alternator off you....

haha no probs, is that for the missing engine cover?, pretty keen on it, and have been offered a decent trade for my xr6t, just unsure about the extent of the rust.

yep for the engine cover. one won't fit on yours due to the gas gear by the looks.

JC, do you have the alternator one? That's the only one I am missing. Appreciate it.

I don't have any, which is why I said you can have all mine. (well, I thought it was funny!)

OK, J/K. Yep, got the alternator one. PM your address to me and I'll send it up/down/east/west.

I basically agree with all of the above, I certainly wouldnt worry about the rust on the tailgate hinge.

These are bulletproof cars, I have gone back to one from an FG XR8 and am enjoying it a lot.
