Default Xr6 vct cuts out while driving

While I was driving yesterday my car just cut out. I pushed the accelerator right in and still nothing while it was rolling. A couple of seconds later it cokes back to life and turns back on. I still had just under half a tank of fuel too. It does it while in going in a straight line and around turns. Any idea of what could be causing it? I just changed my spark plugs and leads if that helps and also my fuel filter around 2000kms ago.

Matt

umm.... an auto sparky should be able to throw it on a tester... or you can just pull all of the plugs and leads, and ground the spark plug and just crank the car for a second to see if spark comes out... if there is spark on all 6, then the coilpack is fine... if no spark on a 1 or more spark plugs, replace your coil pack with a good working one (can be from EF or AU1/2/3) and see if it runs better

Can I test it with my brothers testers as he is a sparky? I hope it's not the coil pack. How much am I looking at if it is?

yeah, you can.. its better to get a sparky to test it as they have the better equipment..

and not much... i got a replacement one from the wreckers for a grand total of $5 for the EF... the car was going to the crushers with an AU3 VCT engine unfortunately so they just asked for $5 for the coilpack and i was out of there..

So it's probably not worth going for a new coil pack is it? I mean if it's that cheap gues I can't complain

If you want a long lasting one, yes, get a new genuine bosch or whatever brand they are coil pack... go to bursons and they should have a new genuine one

i only got mine cause ive spent over $5000 at those wreckers and the fairlane i got it off was going to the crushers anyway.. so it was just a good break for me

think you'll find their about $140 off flea bay.
also if you have a SCT X3 cal flash tuner you can bring up the codes and it'll tell you if your coil pack is good or not.

Or have look on US sites like JEGS and buy new aftermarket units like this for same money

Can't remember off top of my head if these are DIRECT replacements or not but wouldn't be hard to get them to fit

Chuck some new fuel in from a different servo, bad (dirty) fuel will make the car cough and splutter and cut out, id be trying that before spending any money at an auto elec.

Ok so I've tried another tank and it still does it but mostly when I'm turning right. I only use BP petrol in my car nothing else.

I had exactly the same problem you described when I had my old VCT engined XR6, mainly when accelerating after turning a corner. Turned out the fuel pump sock was loose
