New purchase. Recommendations on interior protection?

Just purchased mk2 Titanium with Sports Exec pack, and we're picking it up Saturday. As this is the first car my partner and I have ever owned, we were surprised by the strong-arming that was attempted by the after sales staff to try and sell us $700 leather protection as part of a $1600 tint+leather protection+ paint treatment pack.
We quickly searched on whirlpool if this was required/a good deal and quickly determined that it was sales rubbish.

However, we still want to protect our leather and I like the waterproofing type stuff that causes liquids that are spilt in the boot to just bead up.
What would you guys recommend? Is there a car detailer that can perform these treatments that you recommend, or a bunch of DIY products? Or a link to a thread where all of this has already been discussed?

DIY Products.

Check out www.waxit.com.au. Most products are easy to apply and you will save a bucket load. While your at it you may as well get some wax to to protect the exterior. Waxit has a site sponsor section with tips etc on this forum.

Car detailers can do a good job for you as well, look around your area, don't ever go to the magic indians, they ruin your paint.

Otherwise, waxit is great

Coming from an x salesman any of that stuff is rubbish cost the dealer $100, as said above done waste your money just purchase decent DIY products,

agree totally

the reason is that in the grand scheme of things, the average cars sales run on quite lean profit margins.

as an example, compared to retail clothing stores which normally run on hundreds of % and even over 1000% profit margin, most car dealers aim for double digit profit margins, if that.

so things like extended warranty, paint protection and interior protection etc. are comparatively very high margin up-sells which will increase the bonus/commission for the salesman

(FYI: it is not uncommon for computer hardware sales to survive on single digit profit margins (but they have high turnover). hence extended warranty and sales of office and antivirus software are the up-sells of choice in that industry)
