My uncle is a 747 captain for Malaysia Airlines, and reckons the A380 was rushed into production and makes use of all these lightweight materials that have not been proven yet. Part of every service schedule is to inspect the wings for cracks and see if they are within tolerance, and the wings on almost every A380 actually develop cracks. Asked him what is the worst thing that could happen, and he reckons the whole wing assembly may detach or split in half. Very confidence inspiring.. I think I will stick with Boeing.
