Default bonnet spray job f***up

I had an accident about 3 years ago and did 5G's worth of damage to the front end undercarrage (no it wasn't a write off!!) The bonnet was also resprayed and for 2.5 years there were no problems. This year the bonnet has crowed up and looks really crap, i didn't bother chasing up the repairers as they are no longer in business, it figures, anyway i obtained a quote to get a bonnet respray last week and they told me $850. I was LMAO on the way back to my car.

Could someone please recommend a good place i can get my bonnet resprayed?
Colour code: F3 (polenesian green) metallic 2 pack (needs to be baked in oven like pizza and wedges, mmmm wedges)

Thanks.

Was it done via an insurance company that offers life time warrenty?

If so get them to fix it!

Where about in Melb are you?

the problem is if it has crows feet everywhere it will have to be taken back to bare metal, that adds to the cost of course but still $850 is alot of coin for one panel...

Give Europaint in Bayswater a call, ask them. They do spray jobs quite cheap.

Flasher, maybe you could save some money by Stripping it yourself? Paint-on Stripper would be good and just clean it up so no paint is showing.

as pauly mentioned its more than just painting the bonnet

If it includes stripping back and blending then thats a good price, poly green is a b!tch to colour match.

Thanks guys, it was an insurance job and i found out that the insurance company still exists today, someone told me they went under some time ago, i found em in the White Pages. I'm gonna try calling them tomorrow as i had no luck today (on hold for ages) and see if the paint is covered by some sort of repair Warranty so i may be able to get it resprayed free. They are not a well known insurance company and are generally offered with finance by Ford Credit when purchasing a new or used car.

BTW I'm in Narre Warren VIC near Fountain Gate Shopping Centre.

Ty again

Ahhhhhhh yes it is........my EF is Polynesian Green (it actually looks blue/purple/gyeen) still looks as good today as when I painted it @4 years ago (acrylic too). Was late ED-early EF colour. It's a terrific colour (almost perlescent) without the added cost, & if the rest of the paint is in good condition, should colour-match no problems without the need for blending

Hey FlasherEF my car is poly green too...i've had my panel beater respray my whole front end for quite a good price...with a proper spray job u'd have to get the side guards blended in with the bonnet...that cost u an extra 200+... Call up Brunswick Collision Centre if you want and get a quote... for respray...if u want the cheap option out....dont worry about blending the side guards and get the bonnet colour matched to the side guards and u'd be saving 200+ dollars... cheers frank

I rang the insurance company today and they told me that it was in fact 4 years ago and they don't have a warranty on paint jobs or as they called it normal wear 'n tear(which is a load of crap). I will have to get the quotes from the places suggested.

Unhappy

As there will be a bit of a price difference between geting it sparyed and sanding it all back and preparing it myself then getting it sprayed, i think i will prepare it myself.

This is what i'm up against which is a bloody shame considering the rest of the body is pretty mint: (tossers that sprayed it 4 years ago did not do enough clear coats)

Any advice on what materials are needed like sandpaper grade and paint stripper type etc. to take it back to bare metal would be greatly appreciated. Please note this is two pac paint not acrylic [code F3 poly green metallic].
Cheers.

Lookin at that, I'd take it back to metal with a 80 grit disc on a rotary buffer/sander. That'll get the paint off quick smart. Then wipe it down with prepsol and some of that rust inhibitor. Then mix up some 2k primer filler and spray the lot. Spray a bit of guide coat over that to help with sanding. Make sure it's not enamel guide coat or it will react with the top coat. Matt black spray can paint will do.

Sand that back with 600, then 800-1000 making sure there are no high spots left. You can go over it again with 1200 if you want to get it really smooth. Now take it to the beaters so they can paint it.

Hey Tibbo
this seemed like a good thread topic to ask you if you could look at my car one day soon and tell me what I can do with the front of it to make it look decent...

I know you are the expert to ask :voldar02: (apparently) :

I think I will keep her for now!!!!!!!

Cheers Sphell, is it a time consuming process? I assume grades 1000 and over are wet 'n dry and done by hand right?
