RE: EcoBoost Battery Options

Hi Guys,

Just thought I would create a thread dedicated to EcoBoost owners.

I am just starting out to find some options for a replacement battery and even the possibility of increasing the size to the next size up.

My vehicle was built 03/2011, complied 05/2011 and first registered 08/2011. The way I look at it is that the battery is most probably 3yrs old and for peace of mind based on other peoples issues relating to battery related problems; I will look to replace mine as soon as practical.

The OEM fitted battery is a Ford Silver Calcium VB 60Ah 590A 100RC FINIS: 1672942 (560030060) T6. Dimensions: (L) 277mm (W) 175mm (H) 175mm

Here is some of the info I have found already;

The larger size battery can be accommodated as the Diesel versions have the larger battery. The hold down clamp inside the battery box can be moved forward to accommodate the larger battery, will possibly look at this option also.

If anyone can add some suggestions to this list, please let me know or add to the thread.

At my recent 2yr service I noticed a Battery Report but did not get a copy of it. I spoke with a local Battery Distributor that stocks Varta and Bosch batteries and they invited me in to do a Load Test.

Here are the results via a Bosch Battery Load Tester;

12.77v (anything less than 12.4v I would be in trouble)
667CCA even though the OEM battery is rated at 590CCA.

So it appears that my battery is in very good shape.

I was advised that most of the Euro brands use the lowest CCA rating and actually deliver higher CCA as shown above. Whereas some other brands tend to display the maximum attained CCA but would actually be a much lower amount.

Food for thought everyone, maybe just get a load test done on your battery to check its current health and move from there.

I am going to get another battery check done over the next week or so.
Will get the battery replaced when I am in for the 3yr / 45,000kms service that is now booked for 14/08/2014. I am most likely going to stick to the same size battery, but get the Bosch S5 as it seem to pack quite a lot of punch for a reasonable price.

Anyone else have any thoughts or experiences to share?

So I went today to get another battery test and here are the results via a Bosch Battery Load Tester;

12.46v (anything less than 12.4v I would be in trouble)
536CCA even though the OEM battery is rated at 590CCA.

So it appears that my battery is diminishing since its last test 8mths ago.

I will be getting a new one installed when I get the 3yr service done!

If you want a really good battery you can't go past Deka Intimidator, is it the same type of battery as the normal Falcon?

I have been doing a bit more research and have been reading some threads from others here and on other forums. Please be aware that you MUST use a "SILVER CALCIUM" battery and not just a standard lead acid battery.

Just purchased a Bosch S5 Silver Calcium Battery. It will be installed tomorrow at the 3yr / 45,000km service.

Having read most of the links you provided especially the CenturyBatteries one, I would be interested in why you decided on the silver over calcium/calcium. From what I can gather, the silver will lose more water but will operate at higher temperature.... I think I would go the calcium/calcium. Or maybe I need to monitor the under bonnet temp before I make my mind up?
