Default Cooling problems fixed

A little background.........

I bought my EBII Ghia a week ago last Saturday. Beautiful, one (old) owner low mileage car, full dealer logbooks and all receipts.
Anyway last Sunday I was going to visit my parents, and the outside temp was about 33 deg. With the AC on the temp gauge swung very close to the red range. Now knowing that these cars have a appitite for head gaskets i wanted someone to have a look at it ASAP.
As the weekday temps in Adelaide this week were low to mid 20s and i was working all week I took my car in on Saturday for a radiator cleanout.

The best thing I could have done!! The radiator guy said he was amazed that I hadnt blown a head gasket considering how little of my radiator WASN'T blocked.

He showed me the old top tank (inlet side), about a 1/4 of the way up it was blocked solid with a sand like substance. about 2/3rds on top of that was a similar blockage, leaving only about 2" of unblocked space at the top of the tank!!

The car now runs with AC on at somewhere below the "N" of normal, only creeping up to just below the "N" in traffic.

Very happy with the result. Cost was $300, which included: radiator removal and rodding, new thermostat, new rad cap, new top tank and Tectalloy Gold coolant. All done in 3 1/2 hours.

Anyone in Adelaides west that needs similar work it was done at City Radiators, Port Rd, Albert Park. Just before Portside Mitsubishi.

Yeah thats what I thought, but the cat at the radiator joint said it was coolant residue. Didnt want an argument with him, so I just nodded!!
