It sounds pretentious to me.

"Moving the Falcon" sounds a lot less pretentious than "moving the Fairmont" but not as pretentious as "moving the Ferrari"
I worked with a girl who bought a Ralliart Magna and it was never, took the car for a drive it was, "took the Ralliart for a drive" or the Ralliart is in for a service.

Wow. I really didn't expect this sorta response.

I meant technically, in Ford's books, is it a fairmont or a falcon fairmont, aside from them all being falcon shells, and the current BA/BF fairmonts being a trim package.

Whats this about the plates being stamped Falcon?

Take a look here:

http://www.ford.co.nz/servlet/Conten...Page&c=DFYPage

I think this kinda answers it maybe?

well the ford aus site is different. but you have to click on the "falcon" to see the fairmonts.

its based on a falcon. its a falcon. id never call it a ford falcon fairmont id just say fairmont or probably just falcon.

i refer to my mates GT's as falcons.

It is based on body shell not what pretty decorations you can hang off it. Or if you wish to be technical about it ( Floor pan )Thats how Ford class them. Thats how the rego office class them for road tax. Insurance companies classification is irrelevant they will split hairs just to find a way to suck more money out off you.
1966 Ford Falcon Fairmont was classed as a Falcon. 2006 Ford Falcon Fairmont Ghia is classed as a Falcon.
Ford then classify the differences as Series.
These my 2.2 cents

No matter how much I hate to say it, it is a falcon. A dressed up falcon. Most people when they see the car think its a falcon. Only car heads like us would differentiate. To a normal person, just another falcon (at that point I start my long explanation to that normal person of the luxurious differences...)

Each Ford is an individual in my mind. Holden nearly got it right with their names, at the same time you can refer to "the bucket of sh1t" and everyone know's what you mean.

with the grille an all.

if you owned a mazda 323 and called it a Focus you would still be correct despite people confustications.

I used to tell everyone that the Fairlanes we've owned were "just Falcons with electric windows"

Then they put electric windows into Falcons!!

As i see it, if it comes from a factory and it's a falcon shell, than it's a falcon, it might have an FPV and GT badge but its still a falcon. Same as commodores, I still say clubsport or GTS but to me they are still commodores.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only model to feature a signifigantly different dash for Fairmonts was the AU yeah? The EAs right throught to the EL's had the same dash with alterations for climate control, and maybe a bit of wood grain here and there. So your point is?
