I'd say the EB2 box and up be the best, witht he best being the EF/EL boxes.

They are stronger, and the ratios are better suited to the shorter ratio diffs. Better internals, stronger bearings and syncros, as well as a brake and syncro on reverse gear for that no crunch shift into reverse.

If anyone is interested, I know where there is an T5 conversion from an EF/EL.

And I know the box, and can say that its in excellent nick.

I'd say the best one would be the strengthened ones with Mustang gear clusters they used in the ED Sprints, but outside of those few the EF/EL. Re AU gearboxes, I think they changed the gear lever position so they are not a straight swap.

Tailshaft is the same between the manual & auto, the bellhousing should come with the gearbox.

But a AU dose not just bolt up the gearbox is longer so you will have to cut another hole in your trans tunnal about 4inchers back
that allso means that your shifter will not fit the console and a console from a AU dose not look like it will just be a straight drop in fitment to your dash . and then you have your tail shaft problem you could use ether the AU or the EF/EL tail shaft but you will still have to get it shortend.
and the gearbox X member dose not fit straight up.

Save all the hard work and find a EF/EL manual.. AND if you find a good one let me know as Im after a conversion..

If anyone wants a AU 5sp with everything even computer for 1,000 let me know and I will see if it is still there..

I've heard people say the XH boxes are the best.
due them being built to take a heavy load (1 tonner etc)

I've heard that as well, apparently they're the same as the AU XR8 200kw boxes.
