Would have loved to see something similar between the VF GTS and the FG GT R Spec. Like a top 10 shootout though, one car at a time on the track.

I love these comparo's - like the one with the AMG mercs vs V8 supercar vs F1 car.. show's how far we've come in the years past and how good we really can be.. Admittedly the GTS looked the goods on the track, pretty stable and cornered well.
My affinity for Fords aside, I'd still get one if I had the $$..

Stazza - that is your opinion, but I think you're way off the mark. Seriously, to get a GT to brake and handle like the GTS, whilst inter cooling it, would probably cost at least 15k... So, based on RRP, that's close to 90k.

I think the GTS is priced about right, for what it offers.

Would it be good value if priced at 85k? I'm sure in time to come there will low km examples for mid 80s. If all the gizmos hold up, then it will be a cracker car.

Actually, I don't know why I bother with ya. Even if it was 55k, and priced to match the GS it still wouldn't be as good aye?

I don't know how many others derive amusement at 16 pages of grown men nitpicking over which 12 second factory car is faster by a poofteenth of a second. Seriously, wouldn't you have either in your driveway? Wasn't that long ago a 14 second car was a factory rocket. Whip out the cheque book and climb into the car of your choice, and care less about what everybody else does

I see it as Passion for the Ford Brand

And a "poofteenth of a second" is how Ford won Bathurst 2013

I do confess, I have a passion for fast cars I can afford. I do not line up at the grid at Bathurst. GTS is ruled out for me by my budget. I can barely afford to get into the FPV camp. But I don't allow my lifetime bias for Ford to dictate my thoughts on the GTS, I don't automatically assume it's inferiority because it wears a different badge. It's an achievement in it's own right and should be recognized as such. And if times were normal it'd be the stimulus for FPV to raise the bar again next year.

For the record, I don't like the look of it, but I respect what it is. And as a 'almost' Miami owner it's existence makes no difference to my satisfaction in my new purchase (if its ever bloody delivered!)

(i will add here if anyone takes my comment personally it was very much tongue in cheek, if the thread was 5 pages long and wasn't going around in circles i'd never have posted it!)

Having now driven a GTS I can assure you all that at street speeds it is no faster than an RSpec if anything slightly slower in Manual form. You can feel the extra power when the car is moving but you can also feel the extra weight. Whilst it is very quick I would be confident if one pulled up next to me at a set of lights as it not until license losing speeds that the extra power becomes apparent. You can feel the extra horses though, I liked it.

Thanks. What did you think of the seats and interior comfort and all the suspension tech ? Handling ? Bose stereo system ? Heads up display ?
I'm sure many would appreciate a good thorough write-up of all your initial impressions after all there are very few people in your fortunate position to have access to both cars...

The GTS would run rings around the GT R spec on the track and what was FPV thinking putting stickers on $75000 car makes it looks like a cheap mock up from Footscray.

Or car enthusiasts with an open mind to local performance sedans, that can appreciate any make or model that can deliver a strong performing product.
