The question:
A plane is standing on a runway that can move (some sort of band conveyer). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but in opposite direction).

So it could be relative to the ground in which case:
The conveyor will move backwards at twice the speed that the plane is moving
forwards, relative to the conveyor, hence the double wheelspeed. and the conveyor
will have the same speed relative to the ground that the plane does.
And the plane will still take off.
Or it could be relative to the plane in which case:
The conveyor will move in the opposite direction to the plane, the same speed as the plane,
relative to the plane, so it will have exactly the same wheelspeed as plane
speed, and the conveyor will be stationary relative to the ground.
And the plane will still take off.

So I'm not trying to prove you wrong in any way Casper I think we're both
right. It all depends on how you interpret the question, but either way the
bloody plane WILL take off.

Um, your trying to convince me that the plane will take off? Have you actually read the thread? I know it will take off... I've been saying it for the last 300 posts FFS! If the conveyor moves at any speed, forward or backwards.. whatever, its irrelevant. Plane takes off.

I do have ONLY one question re this. I do believe the plane may take off.BUT

Lets say the plane is on the conveyor (plane at full thrust and the conveyor running in opposite direction) lets say i was strapped to the top of the wing, would my hair get messy?

i.e Is there the same volume of air passing over/under/around the plane as per a normal take off? Would it still be "windy"?
