Mustang SUV concept?

Looks great. There is a sub-niche of performance SUVs, or SUVs that handle, or whatever they are called. Territory had some of that appeal in the ride & handling. It would sell.

Porsche, Jaguar (including I-Pace electric), BMW X5. Things that get you quickly up a mountain road.

Basing on Mustang styling, well it worked for XR-XY Falcons after the Mustang was spawned off the Falcon platform. It would need a different name.

Ford US are doing really well with their SUVs at present, pity we don't get these here.

The RHD demands are still small compared to nth america volumes as I'm sure you know.
He quoted that this is another main reason we'll never see RHD GT350/500's with the hassles getting down to Shelby and back then finding space to finish off and shipping, again stuffs up cash cow productions.

So not sure where you are getting the idea that RHD is small. Mustang only sells about 7000 a month in the US, so the RHD production helps prop it up.

F series sells something like 75,000 a month, so even if we managed to sell a few hundred here a month it would be a tiny fraction of production. Basically not even worth bothering with the hassle of engineering it for RHD.

The Shelby's were never considering for RHD. I'd assume that the cost to engineer RHD versions must have exceeded their projected sales numbers to break even? And as far as i'm aware cars no longer go to Shelby. Haven't for years. They are all done in house.

I know I'm late to the party on this one (been crook for the last week or so with vertigo, so couldn't even look at a screen), but I don't mind the look of that at all. Kinda reminds me of the Merc GLE Coupe. Which is not a bad thing at all.

I can sort of see what they are trying to do but I don't understand why it wouldn't be offered with the same Engine choices as Mustang with the 3rd option being hybrid or electric.

It's not on the same platform as Mustang, this thing is all electric with a skateboard chassis.
It started off as a BEV project to replacement for C-Max and BEV Focus in the USA
but then Fields was replaced and Jim Hackett forced a major redo of it styling as Mustang.

Basically a Tesla 3 competitor, by the time we see the price, no one will want it.


Next year, Mustang comes with a Coyote hybrid, so that will be different.

Having internal combustion engines requires a whole bunch of compromises. Being purely EV means they can do things with it they wouldn't be able to do if it had petrol power up front. Bigger interior, much lower centre of gravity etc.

Front 48% / Rear 52% and kill anything else in the twisty bits.

I just watched the launch and I like it. The Mustang Mach E has good proportions. As for the name, people will get used to it. I'm sure Ford did their homework and there will be customers that will purchase this. Maybe Ford are giving us an insight as to what will come in on future vehicles.

After seeing it i'm wondering what exactly is Mustang about it, except the rear tailights and haunches over the rear wheels?

To me a Mustang has always been an American sports car, a Pony car.

From what I have seen I like the car. This could be a good seller for Ford if priced well.
It'd be nice to see it extended to the RHD and AU market, again priced well it could open up the Ford market further.
We have a SUV (not for driving but simply ferrying the kids in and carrying stuff) and the Mach E would have served that purpose easily.

I have no issues of it using the Mach moniker - it looks like Ford is using the Mustang name as a sub brand which in itself is valuable.

The top 89kw/h Mach E has some good numbers. I look forward to the reviews.

Only criticism right now is the poor placement of that screen inside.
