Yeah your right... it was a pretty silly mistake..... :

hehe guess I just got a little embarrassed n defensive.

Anyway, to elaborate further as I've nothing better to do(the subtle pokes helped). boxters are mid engine two door sports cars ranging from high twelves to low fourteens stock quarter mile... depending on year and model.

I'm driving a modded 4l ba falcon, which would probably do 14.5quarter at best. The numbers don't add up, so I guess my initial statement was kinda bogus as I didn't include enough details.

I ran this boxter from a rolling start, about 40k's and I kept up with it and then started to pull away from it at speeds I'm not willing to post here for fear of further incriminating myself. It was was definately a naughties model.

Anyway moral of my intitial post was the 4l ford I6 has some serious grunt, especially when factors such as weight are taken from the equation and shifting a fat pigs 16 to 18 hundred kilo a** off of the line and can more than compete with some of the n/a 6 euro engines out there. Ford Oz have done some good work considering the size of our market and the comparative budgets to euro manufacturers.

Two different markets. The BMW wasn't built just for straight line runs. It is a whole package, a world class sedan with a world class engine. It is meant for people who appreciate refinement.

It may be quicker or slower but I'd certainly take the 530 over the Falcon.

Love to know why someone actually had to ask which is going to "smoke" the other, FG or a BMW 5 series.

....nearly as laughable as a 9 second, 6cyl, daily, fuel sipping, commodore or falcon...

Technical Contributor: For members who share their technical expertise. - Issue reason: Trev has owned several boosted fords and has really contributed a lot of info on them. His posts in the bike section are also very helpful. I think he should be recognised as a technical contributor.

And your Falcon's are all taxi's with a few cheap bolt ons if you want to stoop down to that level. That latest Beemer is all class.

And is this a Ford site or BMW appreciation society.. Yes ok they do have some nice gear but you will ALSO pay lot's of cash for it.. Ticking the box for a few option's with that mob make's the purchase of our car's look like beer money.. Now refer to the OP on how the BMW owner look's down on us mere Ford follower's.. Wish i knew him i'd soon open up a can of Ford whoop a55 on him and send him back to the hairdresser's quick smart!!..

Agreed, air in the tyres seems to be an optional extra and yes they are damn expensive. But a hot BMW is nothing to be sneezed at with some Ford bogan attitude.
But yes this bloke's mate is obviously a tool and I would gladly appreciate to whip his but myseld in my Ford.

Yup. Maybe not the ultimate driving machine (they have to leave room for the M3) but still a good bit of gear.

His 335 has 240kw the latest 7 series with the same engine have 270kw (same as the tweaked tuner 335's are getting).

They also don't have dipsticks in them these days.

BMWs are great cars, but we are on the wrong side of the globe unfortunately. They end up being way too expensive, and lose so much value. Even the insurance is way overpriced.
i'd love a 335i wags, but even when they have come down in price (with high kilometres too), how can i justify the insurance costs when my falcodore turbo taxi only costs $1k per year.

I looked at:

2006 BF XR6T for $23,000 with 26,000kms and 6 months factory warranty

2000 530i Sport for $24,000 with 180,000kms and no warranty + $2500 p.a. insurance

decision was pretty easy, sure the falcodore doesn't have the quality feel to it, but does have enough features, performance and cheaper running costs.

i read the g6e turbs does it in 13.43 seconds.

550i in 13.7 but who knows might beat the ford up to 250kmh and i still know what i'd rather be driving.

i guess getting back on topic though, both BMW and Ford have developed their I6 motors for so long - its great they keep getting better.

I guess it depends on where you live.

I'm going through the process of ticking boxes off for my next car. Considered a 335i but it's on the improbable list at the moment. However, as far as insurance goes, I can insure a $110k 335i cheaper than I can a $55k G6ET and it's also half the price of a $75k F6.

In Sydney at least, the Ford is excessively expensive to insure. $2800 for a new G6ET or $1400 for a new STI or $1600 for an EVO X!

Dejavu - we went through this not that long ago... :P Allianz, NRMA, AAMI. Real insurance don't offer a useable online calculator and I can't use a pay as you drive policy since I do ~40k kms/pa which can be variable. Since I'm still around 6 months from purchase, I haven't bothered to contact them.

Closer to when I intend to purchase the car, I'll then start calling around. I've been bitten once, having a $6k insurance hike due to two thefts of my car in the space of 3 months so I shop for insurance before I shop for a car (so I know what car I shouldn't shop for...)

People on this Forum have run 12.8 in a G6ET.

Id rather the Ford and pocket the $120k difference.

Yes at a strip.... the mag times (for ALL cars) are far more realistic to what they can do in street trim on normal roads....
