Well thats the thing. Service told me they looked up what parts and stuff are available in terms of submarine lighting and they told me that it is not part of the Australian spec'd model. Might go to another dealership and see what they say. Have you heard of submarine lighting on any falcons?

Nope, its an XR5 Focus specific thing, no other models in the focus range have it, and no other Ford in AU has it

oh just had a thought (bloody dangerous), sub lighting may be the type of lighting that is like a thin strip that just lights a particular area. I had this in a John Deere tractor, had like a thin light on the roof that shone down on the controls only. bit like dash lights but shining on the dash instead of through the dash.

XR5 has "submarine" light, from light near rear vision mirror, and shines down on the gearstick. I'm 99% sure it is part of the Australian spec XR5 and the service department has no idea. What's the name of the useless Dealer?
Take it to another one, or ring the Ford Customer Relations Centre and get then to sort it.

Correct steve, Submarine lighting is where two red beams of light illuminate the gear stick and local area whilst driving, but in real fact they do all.
They are barely noticable.

The mounting of those lights is spot on, great job. Anything that lights up the back seat is good in my opinion, it's ridiculously dark back there.

I've ordered an LS interior light (same as the front) from the UK for approx $40 landed, compared to $67 quoted from a dealer in Oz.
Will post pics etc after it goes in

They don't have a price for shipping to Oz and I'm guessing they just quoted me regular air mail. I had a quick look and didn't seem to find what I bought, but maybe some come up from time to time. The item number (I bought) is 170140491956 and can be found using the advanced search. The light itself only cost me 10 pound I was quoted $17.00 for the plastic surround from a local Ford dealer.

Not mine (yet) I'll investigate placement more when the light arrives and I start pulling the headlining down to wire it in.

If you look at the headlining at certain angles you can sort of make out a outdented (opposite to indented) rectangle where you mount the light.

I have noticed that too. And I'm guessing its a little different from the sedan to the hatch too.
I guess it comes down to what is behind the headlining, and how the light will shine on a slight angle.

Well my fiance installed the rear interior lights for me the other day.
What do you guys think? We tried to get them looking as factory as possible. This is how they look at night. We have got them so they fade on and off like the front light and you can also turn them on individually as well. Last edited by sammc; 14-09-2007 at 01:47 AM. |
