I think my next *home/family* car will be a hybrid, most likely the $23k base PriusC, a bonus in Vic. the rego. is ~ $75 less for hybrids.

You get 2km range from memory just on battery power, if you floor it or it senses load the petrol engine kicks in, on the hwy the petrol engine would be always operating and the battery portion goes to sleep and charges the battery.

The std. Prius does around 1000km on the hwy so its frugal anyway

I never owned one, but those with them recon they are the ants pants

Ford have hybrids in US but not for us...yet

Funny how often these come up whenever anyone questions the value of a big sedan.

Thing is, I rarely see Falcons loaded wtih people towing caravans or boats.

Maybe I should be looking for Falcons towing floats to the mardi gras....

Just comparative petrol to diesel to LPG convert:

From greenguide, one diesel, one petrol same vehicle both 6 spd manual

Nissan D40 Navara Dual Cab 4x4
2.5L 4cyl (T), Man 6 speed
Utility, 5 seats, 4WD
Diesel
Comb 8.5
Urban 10.7 * 1.55 (adelaide diesel price) = $16.50 per 100
Extra 7.2
CO2 224

Nissan D40 Navara Dual Cab 4x4
4.0L 6cyl, Man 6 speed
Utility, 5 seats, 4WD
Petrol 91RON
Combined 13.6
Urban 18.8 * 1.45 (approx adelaide ULP on a good day)= $27.26 /100
Extra 10.6
CO2 329

LPG @ extra 20% consumption = 22.56l /100 *0.7 = $15.79/100

Personally I reckon its more to do with the high price of conversion and the lack of a significant rebate now. Course the rebate just led to some gouging so yes, the industry have done themselves no favours. And yes, I'm a diesel driver but I loved my vapour injected BA turbo to death

2km?? Sure of that?? Sounds way short of the range I would assume such a car would have (30-50km??)

Watched a review on the PriusC. Consumption is same as it's larger brother?? They should have used a smaller engine 1.1 / 1.3L to get that figure down, even a few points to differentiate it from the regular Prius.

Hard to argue on price... Original Prius was around 40k....

dave 3911, I'm not very sure what you are talking about but both the VT Commodore and the AU Falcon had anLPG option. My brother owned cabs even earlier than those and had LPG fitted from new. I am sure that the cab pack options installed on the models I mentioned included LPG systems

There was certainly an aftermarket kit for the VT but unless my memory is going south, not from the factory.

The AU of course, offered factory dual fuel in the Series 1 and then of course dedicated egas engines in S2-3.

So it goes up when it's in high demand as well as when it has no demand.....lol

It's a byproduct which they make ridiculous profits off, back in the day they used to burn the crap like rubbish and now they're stressing the price "must" go up because there's absolutely no demand. I basically stopped driving since it went up to 70 cents, sick of being screwed over by these companies, not worth driving anywhere anymore lol.

too be honest i'm suprised that ford didnt ask for more with four cylinder ecoboost. the only way i see ford selling it for less the I6 is if they raise the price of the I6 or the get rid of something in the ecoboost.

Here's the real story courtesy of Tech Resources, the Herald Sun misquoted figures are just plain wrong...

I think Russellw's chart shows the trend across vehicle types, quite surprised that sales aren't more with EcoLPI but low
figures could be a sign that most fleets have leased vehicles filling those roles already.

It may just take more time for LPG sales to come back, or might be that managers now discover I-4s are
a better proposition than LPG altogether..we just don't know at the moment..

This seems to be the trend as of late. Something has gone seriously wrong with the Aus car market

Its not just what % price lpg is of petrol, its the absolute difference that is important too, though once we get above 70% then its going to be a loss situation running lpg.

When I first started using lpg, it was 1/5 the price of petrol, but the savings per 100km is nowhere near as much as it is today even with lpg being close to 1/2 the price of lpg(in melbourne at least).

There is now close to a 70 cent margin per litre(though it has been higher in recent years), multiply that by 0.7 for the extra vol usage to effectively be 50 cents.

Real motorcyclists care not for such cop outs. We just get to work really quickly with big smiles on our faces and sport helmet hair proudly all day.

Don't need a boot to carry a couple of sandwiches and a laptop.

Looking at those figures it seems diesel is somthing that ford should be looking at. Those figures are masive and constant over the years.

With regards to the comparisons of the ecoboost to fake 4wd's I would rather drive something that looks like a car than something resembling a shoebox.

Companies like Kia are taking sales away. Friends of ours always drove Falcon wagons and then fitted them with LPG. It came time for an upgrade recently. No Falcon wagon. Let's take a look at diesel Territory then. Too expensive. Bought a diesel Kia Sorrento (More power and torque than Territory and from a 2.2TDi 4 cyl). I think a lot are going down this sort of route.

Problem is, dropping off the kids at school or at soccer in a falcon doesn't give you the same status as dropping them off in an SUV.

(for the record, not my point of view!)

I'm sure the governments increase in LPG Excise tax isn't helping either.

Since July 2011 the government has been increasing the tax on LPG by 2.5 cents for a total increase of 12.5cent by 2015
