Thanks John. I set it up like it says on that pages and still no luck, just the motor spining not even sounding close to firing up. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. :(

fuel lines are deff around the right way. Gunna get a new rotor button and dizzy cap tommorrow and have another go, but the motivation just isn't there anymore, i've double/tripple checked everything and it's really starting to ИИИИ me off now.

yep at the plugs. All the happens when you turn the key is the starter spins the motor, doesn't sound at all like its going to start, just makes the whiring starter noise.

that sounds more like no compression.. Take the plugs out and see if the noise is the same

You say you have spark yes? Just because you can see the spark, does not mean it is strong enough to fire the car into life ;) I learnt this the hard way.

the spark looked fairly strong Jared. I puled No 1 lead and plug out and put it against the block while Ash cranked and it was nice and blue. Mick seems to think i have the dizzy 180 out ? would the car crank normally if the dizzy was so far out ? The only sound it makes is the starter turning the motor.

yes i would crank and give spark just not where it is suppose to,,you'd find if it is the dizzy it would be firing number one on the exhaust stroke not the compression/power stroke which could be why you have spark but it won't run.

but will it sound like it wants to run ? Like if i was starting my other car (EA) and it wouldn't start it cranks and sounds like it wants to fire but won't. The EB doesn't sound like that, just sounds like the starter is spining the motor and that is ALL! :S

/me goes and stabs EB!

Generally speaking though, if it were 180 degrees out you would get some backfires or at least a few coughs. If it is whirring along with no splutters or any hint at firing then I'd say either no fuel coming from injectors or major catastrophic problems.

Does it seem to be spinning real fast. This could indicate low/nil compression. Other wise pull the injectors and see if they spray.

cheers
Scott

The motor did look pretty "meh" condition wise and looked like it had been sitting in the weather for a while. But that might not mean anything.

it does sound like no compression, have you done a compression test on it in your car? maybe try roll starting it?

Go get an el-cheapo compression gauge from Supercheap, will tell you one way or another if the motor has comp.

try putting some oil doen the cylinders and then crank it over,,if does start watch the smoke screen,,just an idea,,it may break up any other gunk in there..

got a compression tester today, i'll check it out when i got someone home to give me a hand. The motor was pretty stiff to turn over by hand, but pretty much the same as all the other motors i've done that too.

How would I check if the injecters are doing there job ? as when i have pulled the plugs out they don't really seem wet, just smell slightly of petrol very slightly, I would have fought they would be soaked with the amount of times i've tried to start it. i did pull the injectors out when I was cleaning up the manifold and rail, is there a chance I may have put them back in wrong ? they only seemed to go one way.

The motor does make a bit of a backfire through the throtlebody when i've tried to start it.

Did it have a regrind cam in it at any stage?? Maybe a stock one has been put in and the shims left in the rockers. I found that one out the hard way! lol.

nah standard cam and i replaced the rocker gear. I'm pretty sure it's not lacking compression, it sounds good when i turn it over by hand and it puffs and almost backfires when i turn it over with the starter.

I pulled out all the injectors and they hardly seem wet at all after more cranking ? I made a little vid of what happens when i turn it over but the battery has gone flat now. I'll upload it in a min, I still think i'm just doing something wrong, well more hoping.

http://www.zippyvideos.com/1342448423133716/000_0015/

the battery died when i was cranking so just imagine that but spining faster. Is it possible I don't hae any fuel getting in ?
