I thought LPG had to be fitted by an authorised fitter by law. I wouldnt trust second hand parts for the best of times especially for LPG.

The tank you can fit by yourself, and provide provisions for plumbing the supply line to the engine yourself. The converter, mixer etc and the hardware on the engine needs to be installed by an authorised fitter. And second hand parts are fine, as long as it passes all saftey checks.

Not what I was told.

I was asking about the tank installation with three different mobs up here, and they all told me that I cannot touch it unless I have a licence to.

I don't know what the deal is down south, I for one wouldn't touch my gas system unless I was absolutely 100% sure I knew what I was doing, and have the qualification to do so.

There are rules governing the anchorage positions, technique & materials used for tanks, pipes, electriacal, etc.

By law, you can not fit your own tank & lines.

I can't beleive you said that.

You can fit an empty gas tank by yourself. You then must take it to an LPG fitter to do the rest of the work. You can't fit the lines by yourself, but you can provide provisions for their fitment (drilling holes, etc).

If you've ever seen a gas fire and or a gas bottle explode, you'd leave it to the registered professionals. The last thing I'd want is the equvelant of a couple hundred kilo's of TNT floating around in the boot.... :gren:

I would gladly give up 1 take away coffee a day, thats $15 bucks a week into fuel.

Lucky for me i dont like coffee.

Me on the other hand will just go easier on the smokes. Thats about $50-$70 worth right there.

i'm going to take up bike riding to work eventually. However catching public transport is easy and cheap enough for now. Once I sell my XR6, which is using about $20 of petrol in 5 weeks, i'll put the car repayments into doing up the house and buying a nice push bike or two (perhaps one mountain bike and one racer)
