My 1st car was a FORD PREFECT, (paddock basher piad $10 for it) but my 1st road car was a 1966 2door XP FALCON.
Good old reliable cars that ran on the smell of an oily rag. Hindsight I should have kept them and the XBGT COUPE. :

Holden HQ Premier. Dark purple, white interior. 202 with 3 on the tree manual.
Cost me $3,500. It was 7 years old and in mint condition.
I worked as a detailer at the car yard I bought it from, so before I bought it, it got special treatment :

1968 Renault 10 that I bought for $550 in 1983 with money earned from working after school in a shoe shop.

I had the S version that was the sports version that had a weber carb and tacho but still had 135 wide tyres.

They were rear engined and had the petrol filler in the engine bay. Every time I went into a fill service petrol station the attendant would spend five minutes wandering around the car hose in hand puling at the number plates and trim till you showed them where the filler was. They would then invariably say "What a stupid place to put the petrol filler. Funny cars these Fiats."

First car.... 1948 Austin A40 sedan. 1200cc of pure british power. 4 speed glovebox. Hydraulic drum brakes up front, mechanical drums at rear. Thrill a second in emergency stops. Bought in 1958 for $650 in to-days money. Still on learners permit at the time. Great car for its time but I prefer my AU Fairmont Ghia......just love being spoilt. :eclipsee_
