Just to weigh into the rockers debate, the old black ute had 1.7 YT's off a 220 and it was a 200 motor. The only thing about that car is that it went to Herrods and had a whole heap of work done - it wasnt cammed, but they could have been changed there.

Im not sure whats in the blue ute but I know it's 100% stock, I may even pop the rocker covers off today and have a look. Wouldnt be surprised to see YT 1.7's on there staring back at me as it is a late 02 build.

Fair enough...
It still amazes me how many AU V8 questions still don't have 100% answers..!

THanks man.. I'll go do a bit of homework now...!!

Cheers

The above mentioned 'pages of *********' would actually answer your question if you bothered to look.
The VIN number will not necessarily identify a 220 engine - you need to check a few things on the engine to know for sure.

But you know what - read the above mentioned 'pages' and find the answer yourself.

175kw @ 4750 rpm
200kw @ 5000rpm
220kw @ 5250rpm.
how do you bring the max rpms up ,is it a cam thing a rocker thing or do the heads govern how much rpm the car makes...cheers

Well according to all documentation the 200kw units had 1.6 rockers. They also had a slightly bigger cam so it wouldnt make sense for Ford to downgrade the cam with the next series if they were both using 1.7s.

Ford probably just changed parts suppliers.

I can't remember mate.. but they were crane and not yella terra.....

From what I've found out from another S3 V8 owner (ute), it seems that while the sedans were getting the 220kw engine, the utes were getting the 200kw, but, with the bigger roller rockers, (my engine being a S3 xr ute engine) as his is the same, and he's seen others like it..

Again, Austin, I'll be interested to see what yours has..

Cheers

SII 200kw had Crane 1.6 rockers. 220kw got YT 1.7's. Some late 200 utes got the YT 1.7's as Ford had to use what they had left and it seems they ran out of the 1.6's.

The only way to know if your SIII ute has 1.7's is to pop a rocker cover as there was no science behind what got what.

So in saying that russ..
What would the benefits (power wise) of the 1.7's on the 200kw engines over the 1.6's..?

The 200 had a bigger cam than the 220 so there's a start, probably all too.

hi all. dragging up an old thread here...

wondering if anyone knows the build numbers for AU XR8's?
more specificly, how many S1, 2, & 3's in auto or manual and in each colour.

is just that there's a venom red S2 220kw auto in the family, and i read elsewhere that there were 1954 S2 autos built (but no break down between 200kw and 220kw), and i've now got a silhouette black S1 manual too, and there were 619 S1 manuals built, but i haven't found anything about the colours themselves.

thanks in advance!

Check around the front (alloy) timing cover for leaks. They can corrode badly over time, especially when there is no coolant/corrosion inhibitor used...

How many km's has your engine done?

Looking at a 2001 AU2 XR8 manual here in NZ the dealers says the rego states it's a 185kw in one of the engine pictures you can see Tickford wings engraved into throttle body?? so if it's the stock T/B would mean it's 220kw?
It also has one of those horrible twin rear boot spoilers with the black top spoiler which I thought was AU1 style....

Is cheap at 139kms on the clock 18in wheels at 10k NZD(7-8k AUD)but is the RED which I reckon is the worse AU colour...I'm thinking black rims dropped to the ground ,,,maybe a paint tint ??

Depends which TE it is. Early ones had alloy heads, late ones had cast iron. Apart from that, not a hell of a lot.

Hi Guys,
I have put AU series 3 XR8 heads, manifold & cam into a my rebuilt 5lt EB2 wagon. I've been told the ECU has to be reprogrammed and I also need a 90mm MAS and I can't appear to find one in Australia. Can some one give me advice on this Thanks from keno49
