Default E Series LCD Speedo

I was wanting to know which of the E series cars had the LCD Speedo? Was it any better than the Analogue one and has anyone had any problems with it?

EA fairmont ghia did. Used to **** me of when the sun comes in over my shoulder because I couldnt make out speed easy. I personally prefer the analogue.

i *Think* EB I Ghia had it also.

it went out when the 4.0 came in.

I have had no problems with mine (car per sig), converted to BLUE led, and very happy with it, with the sun on it since i changed the filters from orange to blue I can actually see the numbers better, then without sun over it, go figure

EA Ghia, EBI Fairmont, EBI Fairmont Ghia, NA-NCII Fairlane and Ghia, DA-DCII LTD.

I test drove a V8 NCII Fairlane Ghia a while back and it had the digi dash.

I had a 88 Ghia and I love the dash. It had an analoge tacho as well so you had everything.

My current dash has a few cracks (go the dash mat!) so I wouldn't mind finding a replacement soonish

I had an uncracked dash, i put heaps of stuf on it, to soften it up a bit etc, then i put the dash mat on it to protect, and guess what, it would appear dash mats cause cracking in old dashes, so lesson learnt, uncracked dash, DONT put a mat on it.

now back to topic

ok why would you want to "soften" it up? Do you mean amoural (sp?)?

My old car was uncracked and I had a mat on it for 2 years...and I cleaned it :/

digital probably went out due to styling. It came and went just like a fashion fad!

I had a digi dash in both my XFs...diddnt mind it but the speedo became annoying sometimes counting up and down...that and you cant read it once the sun hits the back window!

Digital was nice for fuel/temp/batt/oil gauges tho. But speedo/tachos should stay analogue.

It was very hard, no give in it, so I put lots amoural, etc to moisten/soften, and it went and cracked on me, time to rebuild my old dash shell to something custom I think, hmmmmmm

Is the analogue speedo of which you speak that bloody awful thing where the speed is displayed as a number instead of just a dial ?

I prefer dials as you "know" what speed you are doing with a glance (rather than having to "read" it) and speed changes see a gentle rise/fall of a needle rather than rapidly cycling and very annoying changing numbers readout.

It's a digital speedo, not analogue. Analogue means it has the dial. It's always been a bit controversial. Personally I've always loved the digi dash, and have actually found it easier to keep to a speed. This is what they look like:

thats what I have, i reckon its great, although its out by 7%, when it says i'm doing 107 i'm really doing 100 (tested on many sets of speed checks over freeways and always got the same reading, plus hundreds of trips from geelong to melb and back at 107 with no tickets) but at least its always consistent and there is no interpretation, if it says 107 i know i'm good, if it says 108 then i'm over

P.S. how did this ancient thread get dragged back up?

I converted my Xg to a EB1 Fairmont cluster a while a go. i loved it. i found it easier to keep the speed right but it was a nightmare fitting it as the xg has xf, and ebII looms combined had to spend 3 hours making a list with the color conversions on it!!!

when i had my old EA, i picked up a digital dash from the wreckers for $30 and it was the best money ever spent. totally loved it.... only hassles was my EA did not have the wiring loom for the digital dash so had to do my own wiring... lotsa work.
