I cant remeber who was saying it, but there is a wrecker here who does these conversions, drive in drive out. All Parts & Panels.

Top work by the guy in the 1st post though!

Congrats on pulling off a monster conversion. From what I read in the posts you drilled the spot welds out of the brackets/mounts on the AU chassis rails and welded them onto your EL rails?

Sounds straight forward enough, theres a pile of AU crossmembers and front suspension parts at my local wrecker that I eye off every time I'm up there...

The electrics on the other hand would have deterred most sane people!

Very impressive. Does this mean it could be done with a BA or would that just be way too much modding?

Yea thats pretty good man well done. I'd never attempt it. While the EL is a far better looking car, the $$$ difference is SFA. Even BA's are cheep.

Would imagine BA be very similar to do. Dunno about the BA IRS thou.

Basically that was what was done. Have a read thru the article on Trueblueford about the engine swap, there is more details and a couple of pics showing what was done

Do you think it'd be possible to remove the e-series crossmember studs from the chassis rail, drill a few holes and fit the AU ones?

There is almost as much work involved in doing that as what I did. Short answer is yes that is one way, but you will also then have to try and mount the swaybar, and ensure all hole are drilled in the correct place. That was the major reason I went the way I did, with using the AU rails didnt have to worry about sway bar mounts or positioning of the holes for the 2 front crossmembers

Hmmmm you've got a point, forgot about the sway bar. Where'd you get the AU rails from? How much they set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

It says in the article he got a whole AU XR that had been taken for a swim...

Congratulations mate, that is a massive converision! I wish I could come have a look at the car!

I suppose the amount of work it took would only be really evident if you had a stock EL on a hoist beside yours, so people could walk back and forth comparing...

I have to say again, awesome work!

The twin spot calipers are a dead giveaway something not original, and ummm the IRS is pretty hard not to see...

but yea if you dont know what was factory and what wasn't you would be be hard pressed

veeery cool machine there macxr8! It looks nutz as a stand alone EL, but to have the added AU gear in it just makes it all the more amazing.

Congrats on the work, and as the saying goes "Don't judge an e-series by it's cover panels ;)"

Thanks for the links John and Pete, very interesting read. macxr8, I think you've just re-inspired me to finally start the same conversion to my EF ;)

I bet you could trip a lot of front-end mechanics up when you book in for a wheel alignment :P
