just a question I have a ea ford fairmont i want to change the door locks and ignition. I have currently the old xf style of keys which i want to upgrade to the ea eb type of keys. I know the door loocks are a straight swap what would i have to change of the ignition. i have a cfi engine.

any help please

no i don't have central locking the locks are the xf style i guess. i want to change the ignition do i need to change of whole ignition stuff or is it just the part the key goes in

yer im pritty sure it's go to the wreak and pick up a ignition barrle
but ther might b somthing with the cfi and mpi somthing to do with the fuel pump
but im not 100% so if n e one can correct me

I did this in my EA back in the day. Just remove the old barrel and replace it with the new one. IIRC it is a bit fiddly to do. Can't remember how I did it exactly.

I've been told since the are both ea that there should be no problem it should be a case of plug and play. Also i have seen cfi engines with the ea to ed style key. Can anyone confirm if it is plug and play

IIRC = if i recall correctly.

You only replace the barrel - it's one unit, not the entire ignition, switch and all

There are no electrics involved. You will need to have the old key in the ignition to do it - it can't be removed while in the OFF position.

Once again I can't remember specific details.

The door & boot locks are held in with a clip and easily replaced.

To remove the barrel from the inbition lock, insert the key, turn it to the accessory position and press the small button on the side of the ignition lock to release the barrel. You'll need a pen tip or a small screwdriver to press the button.

I'm not certain if an XF barrel has identical dimensions to the later ones, though.

i did this last year and you need to replace the whole ignition switch,,the barrel won't go in,,the raised part of the barrel that goes into the switch is to big..

You CANT just swap over the barrels, the whole ignition and steering lock assemblies must be changed, the actual ignition switch does not need to be changed.

go to a wrecker and buy a ignition assembly, but the actual switch will fit in behind it...

so basic there is no point really changing for the xf style key to ea or eb style key without having to rip a lot of things a part is that correct

na pretty easy...

for ignition:

take off bottom plastic cover under steering column, then undo the two break-nuts (will need to probably hammer off with a screwdriver), get two new break-nuts and a steering lock assembly (from pick a part cost me $10 without cylinder), put it in place and put in new break-bolts

for doors (fronts only):

take off door trims, disconnect locking bars and remove circlip, lock will pop out, put in new lock...

for boot:

remove garnish, disconnect locking bars and remove circlip and pop out old lock and put in new lock.....

pretty easy on the whole...

a wrecker will only sell the unit as a whole,,it will just wire up anyway,,i have one with the smartlock cable on it,it's just don't get used.

and why has my signature dissapeared?

I rang around some wreckers today and managed to get a someone that has the full ignition setup and locks. The only the key and igniton is one from a smart lock setup would the ignition be able to go in my car cfi. Can anyone confirm this please

I have a smart lock ignition in my car it
works no problem as the wiring is not
connected & there is no female to connect it
to as it does not exit, it works no problem at all.

didn't work out but i been told by a wreckers where i get most of my parts from.. $55 does includes everything i need
