Default AU1 - Elusive Petrol Fumes

I have an AU1 sedan on dual fuel. Whenever I wind down one of the windows I get a slight smell of petrol, particularly when it's the front passenger's window. Also, after I've stopped and I open the boot I can smell it there too.

I've looked the car all over for signs of leaks, including around the fuel pump and can't find anything, nor could the mechanic I took it to. The smell seems to be independent of whether I'm running on petrol or LPG and how full the petrol tank is.

Since it's worse when the passenger's window is open, I'm wondering if it's somewhere around the fuel rail, although I can't see anything and there's no smell of petrol under the bonnet. The smell in the boot may just be because that's where the fumes accumulate.

Any ideas?

Check the vent mechanism inside the petrol filler cap, had an ef that reeked of fuel and after a very long and frustrating search found this to be the problem.

Cheers,
Simon

Also check the lines to/from the charcoal canister. My VY SV8 kept doing this and next service the dealer notified me that one of the lines was cracked ...

OK...I'll try that. Where exactly is the charcoal cannister on an AU?

Thanks Simon.....to be honest I doubted that this would fix my problem, but $18 on a new after-market petrol cap and the problem that two different mechanics couldn't find....has gone.

My thanks to you all and this great site.
