Default Pod filter problems??

well im getting my pod filter this week (when i get around to walkling to autobarn) and my old man is still against me getting one, he said that it will suck in too dust and ruin my engine.
My Question: has anyone had this trouble? or is he just been an old fuddy duddy?

cheers troy

Fuddy Duddy!

Running a pod in a box is the only legal way, and my engine is fine after at least 12 months with one, I have the Pod as it was lying around and can be re-oiled saves buying new filters.

i honestly think he is tryin to scare u out of the idea. shouldnt suck any dirt into the engine... it's still an air filter, the supposed 8oz that it takes to kill an engine let alone any at all! all pod's r good for is the sound of the things when u hit the loud pedal as i stated in ur previous thread. my dad doesnt like any of what i have done or plan to do but it's my car and ill do what i want to it! (sorry ray, not helpin much am i?)
pat.

I have changed the airbox to a FULLY ENCLOSED pod filter setup, running cool air from flexible ducting through the front bar.

The +ve's of a pod - better air flow
The -ve's of a pod - if its not fully enclosed, you get all the hot air from the engine.

Solution - Either keep your old airbox, restrictive but has moderate temp air flowing through it.

Or do what I did, get the ducted system with an enclosure, that way you get cool air from the front bar, its enclosed from heat, and the prying eyes of cops, and they cant do anything about it. I find the car runs a little better, especially on the warmer days, but its not significant to say 'its brilliant', but its better than the factory airbox in my opinion.

And the filter is there to filter the dust etc, as its designed to do, so I dont why your father said it will get dusty. Of course it will but its a filter...its meant to.

Check the pic of mine here...

ahmm hi why dont u just enclose the pod in a custom box have the top open just like the other cars have like high horsepower Skylines and stuff or just relocate the battery so the pod sits down near the front not all the way back

Trust me, a heat shield is not what they want to see...its got to be in an enclosure to be 'legal', which I think is pretty much crap really. They worry about the 'heat of the engine' catching your filter alight...etc etc...bbullshiit and so on. So at least I can say mine is enclosed and not being affected by the engine heat....this topic is of pod filters vs cops is just crap!. Lots worse things out on the road than pod filter assemblies!

Cheers

will look the goods. hot air induction may be a disadvantage to the exposed setup tho... have u check if it fits in the box yet? i'd be lookin at that...

Pod's are as good as if not better than standard for filtering the air.

If do not get hassled by the police, then run the pod out side of a box and use a heat sheild.

going by the looks of the pod you brought, it is an unoiled pod. therefor your old man is right and that will suck in dust and stuff. the oil that is on k&n filters is what actually traps the dust and keeps your engine clean.

If you bought my pod + pipe, you would have been fine. My pod and pipe is probably cheaper than your un-oiled crappy quality pod.

Each to their own.

doesnt just the quality/grade of the paper count? not the fact it isnt oiled?

What do you mean my theory?

My pod fits directly onto the stock intake pipe OR you could have used the less restrictive pipe i am selling with it. What's theoretical about that?
