Default thumping noise from exhaust when i start the car

when i start the car i sometimes get a big thump from the exhaust at the back. i just had a new starter motor put it and it still does it occasionly..it was doing it before i got the new starter motor. anyone know what could be causing it as it doesnt happen every time. i think it seems to happen if i turn the key all the was on at once, whereas if i turn it on to 'ACC' and let the fuel pump turn on, then start the car it seems to start better, and doesnt thump the exhaust!

It shouldn't do this under any circumstances!....either you have a busted engine and/or gearbox mount or one of the muffler straps have broken allowing the whole exhaust to flop around. I'd get under the car and see if you can move the exhaust around to simulate the thump. It could also be where the exhaust downpipe joins the exhaust manifold.
