Thinking of transporting a car from adelaide

Thinking of getting a car from adelaide, to sydney. Thing is, the car doesn't run so i obviously cant drive it back. I also dont have a car that car drive anymore(well not one that can tow so it doesnt count).
I was thinking of a cheap way to get it here. I dont think the car transport companies will be that cheap, and i think you need the car to start for them anyway.
Does anybody know if you can rent something that will carry a car? Or if rental companies will let you tow with their cars?
Any other ideas are welcome

I can tell you rental companies will cost you a fortune.
For every km over 100 a day they charge somthing like 20c.
The trains require the vehicle to be movable as do most transport companies.
You may be able to get it put on a truck with a forklift, its worth giving it a try

Just rent a 4x4 with towpack...hire car trailer...don't tell them and do it.

its not as bad as it sounds. i had my panelvan forklifted at Pickles onto the transport truck and then off again by the transport company when it got here. there was no damage done at all. (if i hadnt have been told, i wouldnt have known)
just make it clear that the car WILL be used on the road again and they will take extra care.

Bingo, did a 4000k round trip to pick up a land cruiser easy to disconnect the speedo cable apparently*

Sounds great but with the 4 day trailer plus vehicle hire and not to mention the fuel costs to do that distance, it proberbly would have been cheaper on the truck.

That forklift idea sounds like it might work. Its how they lift cars at the mechanics. Ill look into it tomorrow

Got a quote today from a transport company.
$1100. A fair way over what i want to pay.
Still looking into the rental thing.
Does anyone know if you can rent a tow truck??

Keep looking into the truck option.
You may be able to find someone who has a half load going back etc.
Dont limit yourself to car carriers either, try general freight cos its gonna be forked on any way.

Look into general freight carriers, look around and see what you can find, alto of medium sized companies will have half loads... my old man runs a general freight company and sometimes takes cars back on half loads, depending on the car he just uses a forklift to lift the car on...
