They have done no research reguarding the amount of drugs in your system compaired to your ability to drive. It is done with a siliva test which is suppost to show up if you have had speed, weed and something else in the past 6-12 hours. One cone a few hours before driving is not going to affect someones driving... Many other drugs like suscription drugs/heroin/cocaine are not tested for...

Dont get too carried away champ, those laws were introduced here in SA about 4mths ago and to tell you the honest truth, i have only seen the thing twice in all that time.
I live out in the northern suburbs, if the cops really wanted to stop drug driving they would be set up on Elizabeth way every day.
a guy i know who uses a little pot was pulled over last Friday night at Golden Grove, he was off his guts and fortunately for him the drug swabs had run out so he couldn't be tested.
What a joke, drug test station with no drug test kits.

im all for making the roads safer, but where does it stop?

now, they are trying to make it illegal to smoke with kids in the car. Im not a smoker, and i have a 14 month old son, but i worry about rights of the people.

everyone wait until it is illegal to have a drink of water whilst driving. people laugh at me when i say this, but it will come.

when you get pulled up and the cop says we're conducting a drug test, say no thanks mate if i have any more i will over dose. you will find out pretty quick if they've got a sence of humor.

these laws are another example of a good idea implemented in a shithouse way.

one bong, 6 hours before you drive and you lose your license, now can anyone honestly say that such a large bracket for detection is needed.

because to me it seems like they are just trying to catch people out needlessly.

what i mean to say is these tests can be irrelevant, same as a **** test at work, i believe that all roadside tests should only show whether or not a person is affected at the time.

agree with it or not by using drugs you've broken the law. so if your caught wear it, if you cant handle the consequences dont do it. im not saying i agree with it but its the law and unless it changes if your willing to break it then you have to be willing to be charged if cought. being a truck driver i know a number of interstate drivers that are off there heads on speed all the time and in these cases i totally agree with drug testing. how would you like an idiot in a 60ton b,double thats been awake for a week heading toward somene you care about. (especially if he's starting to come down.)

- Person A has been driving a B Double 60 hours on speed with no sleep

- Person B smoked a joint 2 days ago at a party in Canberra.

Under these new drug testing arrangements both people will be fined in exactly the same manner if they both test positive.....work that one out!!!

exactly it is just wrong, they should just be testing for REAL drugs eg. Speed, Heroin.

I have heard of people taking up cocaine after smoking pot, because cannabis stays in your body for 6 months and cocaine only can be traced within 24 hours or something. Just so it cant be picked up or traced.

Unless the test is accurate enough to indicate current intoxication then it should not be there at all! As said a person that had a toke of a joint at a party 2-3 days ago should not be treated as a truck driver thats been on speed for a week! Nobody should be on the road intoxicated by drugs, but if the test shows up months ago of use then there's no point. If it doesn't show up thing's like Heroin, then what is the point?????

I know... Kids dont learn to ride a bike with the training wheels on, you have to let them fall off afew times. Its the same with driving, if you learn to drive going 20km/h it will be dangerous driving 60km/h. It doesnt matter what we do people will die on the road.

i admit some of the laws are just plain stupidic....

EG. a red p-plater under the new laws cant drive a suziki swift gti @ 121kw (turbo)
but can go out and drive a 190kw or a 200+kw flat six with no worries.

people are going to kill themselves on the road no matter what restrictions they put up. its just a fact of trying to reduce the road fatalities..

do the right thing and you wont have any problems (well atleast dont get nabbed ;) )

In my job we get random breath or drug tested, if ANYTHING shows up we are in deep shit
So what if you smoked a joint 6 hours before driving, according to the law you should not have done it in the first place!

exactly my point it does'nt matter if your smoking a joint or shooting up heroin its illegal! so if you want to break the law wear it if you are caught. if you had a smoke 2days ago and it shows up bad luck, if you dont like the fact you can be charged dont do it.
