Default Block Catalytic convertor

Took the monte to the mechanic today, said I have a blocked convertor, anyone had this issue before, and is there any other way to fix other then replacing the convertor?

If it's blocked it means the innards are damaged and causing restriction. There is no fix except replacement. If you were planning on upgrading the exhaust anyway, maybe save up and get the whole lot done at once.

That was my plan the other day, so I have already saved for it, getting a 2 1/2 inch redback. got a quote for 280 fitted.

They may not be 2.5" though.

I remember reading about this, there are 2 different materials they use for high flow cats, one of which is more expensive but much stronger/better.

if you get in the ИИИИ say you haven't touched the car from when you bought it if you hollow the cat. it was like it already.

and i heard high flow cats don't do ИИИИ, in actual fact stock ones flow better because there alot bigger thus more holes for the gasses to flow through

The cat is there for a reason and we don't condone anything illegal around here. If a temporary fix is needed, a secondhand cat would make a lot more sense than breathing in cancerous fumes and then paying a $10k fine.

It does rattle a fair bit, especially when in drive and stopped, not so much when moving. so my plan was to replace it all, guess that gives me a good reason to do it now, the wife can't argue!

When I got my 64 km/h speeding fine, I should have argued that the previous owner modified the speedo.

as i said it is only temporary, and if hi flow cats didnt do anything better than a stock cat then why would they be on the market, i dont know bout power gains, but it sure gave my exhaust a much nicer and defined note

Redbacks sound good too, just have to do a couple of hundred kays or so for them to sound good.

my EA did the whole blocked cat thing.

It'll feel like a new car after you get the exhaust and a NEW cat.

Don't punch the guts out of it, it might be tempting but it's not worth it.

I had a briefly had a punched out cat on my EA after I took the turbo's off....I reckon it went worse.....

Apparantly there isn't much of a gain to be had from a hi-flo cat on E-series from what I've heard. Just get a S/H one and get the exhaust guy to weld some new flanges on it to suit the redback system.
