Ok so I know I'm probably going to get ripped apart for this but here goes, and apologies if this has been done b4 :(
Everybody always seems to whinge (not on this forum) about the ammount of people who put chev badges on holdens. I personally think its stupid to not support your "own brand". So does anybody else feel the same way about the people who dress up there falcons with fpv badging, striping, decals, "v8 bonnents" ( when not v8), fpv starter button etc, etc, etc. When I got the GS I didnt realize at the time that the fg range were branded with fpv badging. Dont get me wrong I love the badges but also love the Ford ones aswell. So FPV owners does this annoy you or not? Do you think it devalues the brand??

If they can live up to the 'P' in FPV then it doesn't bother me.

I'd rather see FPV's badged like AMG Mercs or M series BMW's...but I'm probably on my own with that one!

I think it's silly to put the wrong badge on your car no matter what you own.
But that's just me. I would NEVER put an SRT8 badge on my car. But would put SRT8 wheels on because I just think they look nice. I'm not trying to trick people by rebadging. You can buy factory reproduction SRT8 wheels which do not have SRT written on them. I would happily put them on my car. Last edited by Ben73; 02-11-2012 at 11:46 AM. |

Thing is though that most people buy stuff off ebay, If ya getting the real stuff from ford differant story. I know the knock off stuff is just as good, but say for example u buy a Gs like mine. XR body kit, stick some knock off decals from ebay on, knock off rims made in china. Stick the rims and decals on a FG xr8 and u have a GS on the outside, for alot less then what a real one would cost. Look how many people back in the day did it to Vl ex chasers with a walky body kit. On the outside it looks the same, if you cant afford the real thing, then be happy with what u got. Me personally, I would rather have the ford badge on it with the fpv logo, stickers, etc put on after like the Bf's and proper GTs had.

Like everything, Ralliart stickers on a stock Magna or Lancer, etc People are just showing their passion for the "performance" arm of the brand they support. No real biggie really. Some don't make sense, like a Chev badge on a 6 cylinder Commodore? Anyway it can be done tastefully or terrible.

THis does annoy me a bit.
However there is a new breed of hoon in addition to the fake badge brigade. the SV6 drivers. They "think" they have a SS and drive like it has 1000hp. The real SS drivers seem to be rather decent law abiding citizens but the SV6 people, like P-Platers they are, well most of them are p Platers. Just last week I had a young kid in his VE SV6 ute turn right and somehow lose control of it doing a burnout. Of course it had a sports exhaust to try and trick people that its the real SS. He lost it into oncoming car just missed him. Everyone locked up their brakes plenty of sliding but luckily everyone stopped without a collission. The driver of other car gets out ready to beat him to a pulp, the SV6 drivers backs up and speeds off. Im seeing more and more crazy manourvres from SV6 drivers. |

Your car, do what you like with it.
Personally I like the original look not the pretend look. This goes for all makes of cars. |

FPV badges on falcons are just as silly as Chev badges I think unless in very limited cases where it may be a full FPV replica (engine and all).
However, XR8 bonnets on 6's and FPV starter buttons I think are a completely different thing, perfectly ok and I would do so myself without hesitation.

FPV badges/ parts are associated with Ford.... so at least there is a strong family link...
How does a Chev badge link to a holden?

theres no chev is a commodore. a falcon with FPV or tickford badges can get away with it as associated with ford. I dont understand the chevy badge on commodores. you would think they would put HSV badges on them (or pontiac badges on there V2 monaros)

i guess it's not all that different from doing a XY Falcon 500 up like a GTHO Clone.
it's their car, they can do what they like, even if it is putting 4x4 chassis under a XB Coupe.

Funniest 'rebranding' I saw was about 2 months ago out at Caroline Springs in Melbourne.
A Holden Astra TS model with Ferrari prancing horse stickers on the side in the same place a real Ferrari wears one. Not on topic but thought I'd share. |

when a young bloke zooms into a parking spot crookedly in front of you with his inappropriately badged car, jumps out of said car sporting a mohican hair cut strutting across the road feeling good about his ride and himself, would you guys deprive him of this feeling? it seems a pointless exercise me but to each his own.

I spent over 10 years living in Japan. It has only been in recent years that Toyota has opened up Lexus dealerships, so all of the Lexus vehicles you got here and around the world were simply top of the line Toyota Badged vehicles. I had a Toyota Windom Lexter (Lexus ES300). And it was badged a Toyota. My brother-in-law used to work in the factory they were made, and at one point, all cars come to one point. The ones to be branded Lexus went in one direction, and the others went to the Toyota branding. Now that they have started selling Lexus in Japan, Toyota is now only left with the Crown and Mark-X as their flagship vehicles.
As for now. I drive a 2010 a white Ford Territory with blue gt stripes and a cobra sticker.. Any idiot knows there is no Terri Cobra. But as an American Ford fan, I like the Cobra heritage of Ford.. I don't care what people think in all honesty.. plus, I feel that mine is subtle... Last edited by Samurai_Chris; 02-11-2012 at 02:38 PM. |

people do it cause they can, its their money and do whatever they like its not like its against the law, although an XR8 bonnet on a commodore is pushing it.

It's not a badge limited thing...Nor brand....There are lunitics everywhere and they don't discriminate in what they drive to become one...That simple. As for badging...Who cares....There car, there money....why should people tell others what to do with there property...

Just like getting your big fat girlfriend to wear a t-shirt (or small circus tent) that reads "Supermodel".
People are going to look at her, know she's not a supermodel, then look at you and mentally face palm themselves. |
