Default Window's Stuck!

Noticed last night that the front passenger window was down a bit (don't know how since it was never touched but anyway).
Turns out the window won't go back up. Tried a few things (pulling with button, '31 times' etc.) and nothing seems to work.
Attempted to clean the contacts but then realised that both the buttons to control it (driver and passenger sides) aren't working (massive coincidence?).
Also, last night it was making a knocking sound when trying to go up. Disassembled it but put it back together thinking we'd clean it tomorrow.
Before taking it apart again today the knocking noise was still present when pushing the up button, now it's stopped altogether. Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers, Anthony

the wire on the window regulator can fray and bind, even unravel:(... If it is making a noise I'd put a fiver on the reg being rooted

A similar issue has happened to me with my NL fairlane (very similar to AUs). In my case, a mount that holds the winder cable for the window had let go, stopping the window from going right up. I could lift the window into position, but because the cable was not holding it, it would drop back down again. I managed to buy an aftermarket assembly at a wreckers for about $130.

Good Luck

I had the same situation on my SR driver's side window.

It would clunk at 1/3, then 2/3 when going up and down. It's got progressively worse over the past few months or so, so I ordered a new regulator and winder from carsRus on ebay.

Had my good mate Dave the mechanic replace it for me whilst I was at work, but apparently it's a pretty easy job.

Clicks all gone, the window works like new.

It was $75 delivered from Qld to my door in Melbourne.

If the drivers switch is faulty the passenger side switch will not work, they are hooked up that way, so try switching the two switches around and it may get your window back up.
I had this problem today and just gave the contacts a good burst of brake cleaner(its all i had, but it worked) you may want the special contact cleaner if your that way inclined but i just left them in the sun to dry and put them back in a few minutes later.
Hope this helps
Cheers Jason

Thanks for the advice guys
Got the car booked in for a service soon so I'll get it checked out then.
Good chance it's the regulator though.
