penalty for driving a manual

i've looked on the vicroads site, but cannot see anything related to penalties for not driving to your license conditions?

what is penalty for driving a manual car on an auto license? - points or a fine or both?

a friend of mine got done... already had one speeding ticket...

bye licence for 6 months and they take ur plates and force you to have the car towed or driven away

?? ok so i guess it's a officer descretions as to whethere what happens cause i know someone who just got a fine no points an was able to drive without being told to go straight home or whatever etc etc

guess that foiled my ideas of manual conversion lol

You forgot to add taht his car will get impounded and hell be thrown in jail.

Stuff paying more money to Vicroads they scam enough as it is.
The reality is youll have to be extremely unlucky to get picked up on it in the first place, how many times do you even get pulled over???

I KNOW people whove got done for it and they got warned, the worst you will get is "unlicenced driving" which is a small fine no points.

NOTE* Its different from driving with a suspended licence!

Just wait it out for your fulls.

The thing most people wouldnt think of is if you have an accident, your insurance company will laugh in your face, rip up the claim form and wish you luck.

It's not even so bad if you bend your own car, i feel for the other party who'd have to go through the nightmare of being hit by someone with no insurance and no means of paying for the damage to the 500 - $250,000 worth of car you damaged. Hypothetical situation, but the ramifications extend well past just a fine or points.

Far out...Last time I got pulled over was in 1994 for doing excess under 15kph ....how in hell do you get yourself pulled over every 4 weeks.....

i understand why you wouldn't want to take the driving test again... it was absolute hell. But what are the insurance implications if you crash a manual car which you aren't licenced to drive?

it's cause i go to mates places at 10pm.. and then leave at like 4am (like this morning - however i was lucky didn't see a cop in sight) but basically they pull me over for a RBT and license check... only been pulled over and no fines etc.. and for having an unclean car (dust, dirt - from goin to mates place in the country & some paddock bashing in the paddock) -

to date: no fines & no points so i'm safe

um....just go do the test again...if your that bad a driver that you couldn't walk in and do the test then you shoulhdn't be on the road like many other drivers who are taught to paass the test and not taught to drive. For all of our sakes learn to drive a manual...ie get some lessons if you are concerned about not being able to drive the test. once you have driven the thest and passed go and do a defensive driver course!!

I don't think you would ever have your car impounded for such a law... and I think you can get up to 1 demerit point for doing this, but it is the cop's discretion

yeah, I was taught how to pass the test more then i was taught how to drive... instructor is always like do this 'n do that when on your test. (anyway that's beside the point) the point is, since i've had my license I have had so much bad habits, i do everything wrong because it's 'easier' - those bad habits won't pass those alone :P

i dunno, i heard that they're going to try (or are) going to instroduce that, but i doubt it'll affect current Probationary holders (like most other laws that come in - eg: if you own a high powered car under your name, then you can keep driving. whereas; people can't buy then drive a highpowered car when the laws come in)

I know its not much help, but over here in the West, what you pass your test in is what you are licenced to drive during and after your probation period. And if you have just your auto licence and get done driving a manual, thats a 3 month rest, and if you are on your P's, thats game over licence, come back in 3 months get your L's again, book a test again, pass again & welcome back to driving.

Add to this the fact you aren't insured, not even third party cover. What if you hit a car with a kid in the back and he gets injured, you'll be in jail for a while, then paying the compo bill for the rest of your life after the RTA (or similar body's) insurance co drags you through court to get you to cough up for 12 months or so, then u have to pay thier legals too....do I need conitnue.

Over here, I'm pretty sure you can go do your manual licence while you are on your auto P's and your probation period doesnt get extended any....maybe you should enquire about that.

Crikey las time I was pulled over for no apparent reason was back in 92
I have been out at all hours and never been stopped for any reason
Last RBT I was tested at was last century I think I have been waved on throught a heap though

yeah but people driving expensive cars wouldn't get pulled up much at all, you'd probably be unlucky to get pulled up in a 2000 and onwards car(if you were driving normal and not wrecklessly).

Fine is "Failure to obey licence conditions" ie Driving an manual on an auto licence.

Penalty is $110 and no points. Not a biggie, but surely more expensive that resitting the test.

Incorrect, he is not licenced to drive a manual, the offence is "Unlicensed Driver".

The penalty could be a fine or a custodial sentence, dependant on a number of factors.
In addition if he is insured his insurance company will scrap him in the advent of a collision, the ramifications could be very serious indeed, not worth it imo.

how can it be "unlicensed driver" when he has a licence?

he would be breaching licence conditions because on his licence it would have conditions "A" for automatic...
