I bought a EF XR6 last night and when you take your foot off the throttle the cabin starts to vibrate. No vibrations come through the steering wheel but the whole car shakes quite badly especially at high speeds.
Is this a common problem or anyone ever experienced this? Thanks Mark |

First thing I'd check is the tailshaft flange bolts onto the diff. Then check the tailshaft uni joints.

my guess is something to do with driveline...
but does it make a flapping type noise when turning a particular direction... at medium sorta speed.. (60 km/h) i had a problem at speed of the whole car shaking... (in a mirage tho).. and turned out to be massive eggs in the tyre surface.. not the wall.. but in the tread... replaced the wheels.. problem gone... but your symptoms sound slightly different... |

The tail shaft is prolly rubbing on something, my car does that at 80-85 km/h. If you accelerate you cant feel it once you let go of the accelerator it starts vibrating. Thats my guess as to what your problem could be.

Broken engine mount or gearbox mount maybe? I had a bent tailshaft in mine once and it vibrated like hell all the time so if it only happens off the power I would doubt that it's that.

Put it in neutral at 110 and see what it does, might be an idea, it will be able to narrow it down a bit anyway (do this on a private road)

I'd be tipping a bent tailshaft or bent rear axle.

I'd say it's a uni joint. My 335,000km-old ones were buggered and would vibrate at around 130kph (with the 4.11s, meaning the tailshaft gets much more of a workout), and when I had the unis replaced both front & back that fixed the problem.
You could probably do the unis yourself if you're good with a spanner (I'm not!) -Dave- |
