Well, being an ex series one owner.....brakes, brakes....umm did I mention brakes. Plus it is getting on in the years too. I'm sure it's a beautiful car, but mods don't mean jack for resale unfortunately.

I've been looking to upgrade to an AU fairlane from the NF but alas, it's SII for me too, the two biggest and most obvious "flaws" ( although I wouldn't exactly call them flaws) is the smaller brakes and the smartlock V bigger brakes and Smartshield.
If it wasn't for those 2 things, especially the brakes, I might have looked at it as it looks like it's got just about everything else covered.

Nice car you have there.

Depends on when it was built, middle of series one production, they started fitting cars with smartshield. My '99 Forte had it.

don't get me wrong i get what you're saying, but i dont see what brakes and smartlock have to do with flaws...

its not as if its broken down because of the smaller brakes... you know what i mean.. its not a race car, its a luxury car, it doesent exactly need brembos..

i understand with cars that no matter what you put in to them, monetry wise, you never get it back..

thanks for the opinions guys... its appreciated..

The brakes for me are important as I'm out of town and there's alot of roos and wombats out this way and if I have to stand on them I want the car to stop ASAP!.
Tell you what Kristo, I'd give you $8k, cos I'd want to spend the money to upgrade the brakes to SII then go slotted and drilled, and you can keep the wheels as 20s' are no good out here. Plus, if you could or would bring it up here or at least meet half way, I'd give you the NF as well to get home in. It passed it's NSW roadworthy not 2 months ago after I brought it over from SA. It's a bit rough around the edges but it's sound and rust free and still gets over 500km to a tank of LPG on the open road.

i understand the brakes thing in that situation... i hit a roo at about 110kph and it hurt like ****. was in hospital for a week..
look, i'd only sell it if a TL50 came up(exactly how i wanted).
i'll let you know if i find one.. wont be for a while i'd imagine..

Just an opinion, your car, dont get cut though if people dont like it.

yeah i've seen what they're going for, but i've only seen stock as a rock ones..
and again, i understand you never get the money back that you put in, but alot has gone into this..

bodykit, stereo and wheels come to $12,000 alone..

so what would it be worth without all this...? the same??

I know 12K is a lot and no doubt you'd want a small return above the average going price. Have you still got factory stereo? Could transplant that into the TL when you get her. The other option to consinder is keeping your current ride as a daily and the TL for special occasions.

yeah i see what your saying, but i've got a 4wd ute company car that does all the daily stuff.. this is my weekend car.. and the TL50 would just take the fairlane's spot in the garage..

i could keep the stereo and stuff but if i get a TL its staying original...

i guess its worth what someone will pay at the end of the day, hey...

selling cars is the pits, especially if you have put your blood sweat and tears into it. You know what its worth, but no one else cares as they are after reaping the rewards for your hard work.

Sad state of affairs to say the obvious. But be prepared to wait for the right buyer.

thats the worst bit... everyone wants it for the price of a stock one.. obviously they dont realise the value of the kit alone... FORD PRICE... over $6000
without paint...
then there's everything else...

what would be a fair price to start at though..?

If I was in your shoes, I'd start at 11k ONO and just state all the good things your done to it. Thats the best way to try and sell it. Be prepared to get some tire kickers though. It comes with the territory. All you need is one person willing to buy the car for what it is. Be particular with where you sell it too. Forget carsales, they cater for the everyday joe out there looking for a daily bargain IMHO.

I'd try selling it on http://www.australianmusclecarsales.com.au/
They cater for modified cars and classics.
