Default auto staying in neutral/park

tonight i started up the car and put it into reverse,
gave it some throttle and it just reved... ok wtf?
so i put it up into park and then into some other gears... behaves the same.

i turned it off, pulled the shifter all the way down and back up into park.

started it up again, was ok.

any ideas as to what happened here?

i have kept the trans serviced it will be due again soon.

If you take a hard right turn when it's cold, does it lose gear and re-engage? This is always a definite sign of low trans fluid.

Hmmm... mine does this on occasion, before and after my trans service about 3000kms ago.. might have to look into it.
