my auIII has what seems to be a stuffed clockspring. the radio control, cruise control, horn dont work and the airbag warning light is on. it flashes 3 times, then 2, the 3, then 2 etc, and then finally stays on. i have taken off the airbag, but i cant disconnect the plug from the clockspring connector. what is the trick?? i have disconnected the plugs down the bottom of the steering column to be able to test the wires for continuity through the clockspring, but the only wire with continuity is the earth wire.

Spray silicone is a wonderful thing for sticky plugs

sorted it out. the plug doesn`t come out of the clockspring does it... no. i found that out eventually.i got the clockspring out, pulled it apart, cut off the crook end and soldered it back together. all fixed. it was a bit fiddly though, keeping all the soldered joints separated, but only took about an hour to pull apart and rebuild.fine tipped soldering iron is a must. the bit i had the most trouble with was pulling the steering wheel off. they must have assembled it originally with shaft-fit loctite. anyway, it`s all good now, everything works like it should.
