Default No One Loves These Vettes

Yes, I know they're not Fords but this is still an amazing story.

Quick version: In 1989 VH1 gave away 36 Corvettes. One from every year from 1953 to 1989. The winner sold them to an artist who planned to use them as a project but lost interest. So they sat in a garage for 15 years collecting dust.

See the link HERE for the story & pics.

Thats heartbreaking, some of those Vettes are as rare as hens teeth and highly sought after too!
Its like finding buried treasure.

I agree... it reminded me of chenobyl in a weird way. Everything left exactly as it was, almost untouched for years.

Some big dollar cars there. I prefer Corvettes over mustangs and having owned a 1982 collector edition. Which I purchased in Gilroy just outside San Fransico and drove it down the BigSur to LA to ship back to Australia. Still annoyed that I sold it.

Dude you make it sound like those are the only two american cars ever made.... I have unexplainable love for the mustang, camaro's, challengers, and other obscure things some of you guys have probably never heard of... Vette's never really rated very high on my list though, i really appreciate that thread, and feel saddened looking at it, but there's plenty of things i'd rather own than a vette.

I know there were many tough great looking cars made in the US in the 60's and early 70's from other makers but none had the IRS handling or braking power. Plus the vette continued with performance cars. As other manufacturers downsized and detuned their cars from the scare of the oil embago and made them real hidious in appearance.

I would take a BA Fairmont ghia V8, Falcon GTP, XR8 or XR6 turbo over anything Ford is producing in passanger cars nowdays in the US.
The Dodge Viper or the Porsche destroying C6 Corvette are my personal US choices for current US performance cars.

That's heartbreaking. Amazing pictures too... sad thing is, this happens all to often (cars just being put away and not looked at again, not the VH1 bit!).

Back in the UK, a good friend of my parents loves vintage Bentleys, and can afford them too, the bastard. We went with him one time to take a look at a Speed Six he had heard about that had been in a barn for the last 45 years and might be for sale because its elderly owner had died and his widow wanted was having a "clearout". Sure enough, up the back of a small outhouse covered in a sheet and surrounded by hay, other car parts and God knows what else, was the car. Hadn't been even so much as looked at in nearly half a century. The guy parked it up after a minor accident and never got around to repairing it - it was only a broken axle and some very minor scratches (he hit a kerb side on, apparently).

Needless to say, bastard friend of my parents offered her a price for it, she nearly fainted (as did we when he told us later!) and he came back with a low-loader the next day to take it away. It's currently getting ready for its first British summer in a long while. That's how it should be.

What's wrong with putting cars in storage? Do you seriously think they would still be around if they were daily drivers?

Those cars really do look unloved. And I agree with psycho chicken, if that "artist" does paint even one of them...

imagine if we found a big warehouse of old aussie muscle cars :sm_drool::sm_drool:

thats an awesome find imo, they are lucky because atleast the cars will have hardly any k's on em and no rust.

did anyone actually read the thread. It was a good read.

Kinda sad, to see them all sitting there. I'm sure that one day they will be restored, atleast some of them. For those who didn't read, the owner is Peter Max, a famous artist who has done a lot of charity work in the past, probably a lot of drugs too. Hopefully he will come to his sences and donate them to a museum or auction them off for charity.

Cheers for the link.
