Default How 'not' to have an accident

Police car in crash after ute fails to give way

BY PAT NOLAN
28 Jun, 2012 01:00 AM
SMALL fender benders in supermarket car parks are nothing new.
But one young driver found himself in a collision with the worst kind of car yesterday – a Victoria Police highway patrol car.
The 22-year-old Ballarat man was turning out of the car park onto Grenville Street when he failed to give way to an oncoming police vehicle.
The police car T-boned the Holden ute on the driver door, causing extensive damage to both cars.Ambulance Victoria was called but the driver was not injured.

I hate driving through that part of Ballarat for that exact reason, it's a madhouse.

The police should have been driving at a speed that allowed them to stop for anything! Must have been speeding! haha.

Thats what everyone else has to do!!

I would say that the copper is in trouble regardless of who actually caused the accident.

As a driver for an emergency service, it is drummed into us that we are always at fault if we are involved in an accident.

unfair, maybe, but we need to be more 'aware' than John Q Public.

Ah no .... better review your road rules... a person pulling out of a driveway has to give way to all traffic. It even says it in the article... but hey lets turn it into a police bashing post straight away.

Cop had right of way but what is the speed max of that street 50km???

He should of easily been able to stop or caused minor damage at most...

its quite possible that the ute jumped out in front of him leaving very little reactive time.. even at 50km..
My XF panelvan was a mess after I t boned a red light runner on an intersection.. and I barely made it to 40kph.

I don't see how a Police car is any worse than a normal car, not like the officer is going to arrest you or shoot you.
A simple exchange of details and we are on our way to let the insurance company sort it out.

In that case there should never be any accidents, bit hard to tell how much time the Police officer had without actually being there to see the accident.

Can't see what the fuss is about....Accidents happen all the time....just because a cop car was involved doesn't mean alot, other than having to ring the to attend the prang

Huh??? That's not the case in the slightest. If the copper was driving along normally and this guy just pulled out in front of him, as the article suggests, he wont be in any trouble at all.

Let me guess, your in a volunteer emergency service whose training is based more on word of mouth, gossip and old wives tales than fact..... been there... done that...

Of course it's worse, depending on the mood of the cop he will probably be slapped with a few tickets, dangerous driving, failing to give way etc

Oh, golly officer, it looks like you've got a headlight out. I'm gonna have to give you a ticket for that one.

Bah, you're not worth it Dave.

But perhaps when you're next at your 'volunteer' station, you might concentrate a bit more on what you're being taught, rather than listening to the old wives tales and catching up on the gossip.

You may learn something.
