Yes 175kw for the all AU Fairmont Ghia 5.0's is correct :(
Hence the reason ours is coming out to be replaced by a 220kw XR8 engine.

What you have there is a 200 motor. Utes never came with the 220 and the 185's never got the hand built plaque.

Firstly "blue top" is usually used to describe the older style EV1 injectors. AU's use the EV6 injectors, and the plastic body of the injector is all the same colour (not just the top). Just because they are blue does not necessarily mean they are 24lbs e.g. the 39lb SVT Cobra injectors are also blue. You really need to check the part number on the injector to know what spec it is.
The AU series 1 V8's did come with either orange 19lb injectors or blue 24lb injectors, though there does not appear to be any pattern to what they ended up in. I have heard of XR8s with the orange 19lb'ers, and Fairmonts with 24lb'ers. It would seem as though there was just some old stock left, so injectors on series 1 AU V8's are just luck of the draw...

I have just changed the engine in my 99 fairlane ghia, which had the blue injectors, and the new engine has the orange injectors (out of a fairmont ghia). Other than that, they look exactly the same. Is there any real bennefit from changing over to the blue injectors as in the post above, to the 5lb bigger option? The car is also on LPG. I have also been reading about the 175/185kw topic and am wondering if i had a 185kw, and now have a 175kw? Thanks for any advice Brad

I guess the computer was changed with the engine then?
No benefit at all, the 19lb should be enough to support even mild mods; exhaust, tune etc.. What the other guys have said is spot on. Quote:

If someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand the 185kw motor was the same as the 175kw but had a revised exhaust system/different headers. As far as the injectors go, the 19lb ones should be fine if you're leaving it stock/usual mods, if you were putting down 250kw or more at the fly then you might have to change them but otherwise I wouldn't worry.

Thanks guys
No at this stage i have not changed the computor. I am just about to give it a start up tomorrow night all going well. the new motor came with its own loom, so i have just plugged it in. Why would i need to change the computor, would they not be the same? It is also a stock engine, used as a daily driver, i have the XB for fun, although that one has been my daily for the last 4 weeks. Regards Brad

looking for a better cruising gear ratio.
need to know if there is a 3.08 lsd centre in any model that will fit the persuit 250 diff. and is it as strong as the stock 3.45 lsd that they already have? would this also fit a Te50 T3? |

wondering on the mileage vs reliability on the AU's v8's...i'm soon going to a new car, thought about going to b-series...but i do like the AU.
I know the Au's I6 is rock solid & run forever...but i have no personal experience with the 8's. are they as reliable going into the big kms? the I6 is good, just a bit sluggish now i have got used to it's power...a bit more would be nice i'm finding a new car primarily to gain a manual tranny, i'm sick of the Auto sorry if this is not in the right section...thanks in advance |
