No it's not what you're thinking.
Got into my XC (that I've had since Adam was a boy) after it was sitting in the car park at work all day in the rain, and found a wet patch in the carpet on the drivers side. Best I can tell it looks like its running down the plastic kick panel. Must be leaking from under the windscreen or something, not a good sign, means I'm going to find a big rust hole somewhere, bugger.

Sounds like a similar wet patch i found in my XF, for some crazy reason i decided to take it through an automatic car wash.
Damn floor carpets on both sides start to move about like they were alive and got quite wet....so suffice to say, i never did that again lol |

My XC had a bit of water coming through the windshield. i got some auto silicone from work and under this heavy rain and car washers it hasn't happened since.

I have to put up with both types...
But at least with one, i can move to the other side...

Check that your scuttle panel in front of the windscreen hasn't filled up with leaves and mud. This causes the drain to block which then allows water to back up and flow inside through the air vents.
Happened to me on my XD ute. Cleaned out 20 years of crap and it didn't give me trouble after that. |

Pull the guards off first! It will be the plenum rusting. This is 99% of the course and pulling the trim off wont see the problem.
